The People’s Kitchen support homeless and vulnerable people and help fight hunger and loneliness for locals in need. Every year, they organise a Christmas Street Party.

00:00But the day is the first Monday in December and on that day we always have a street party for our friends.
00:05As you can hear, it's a bit of a party. We have a turning on the lights on.
00:10We've had Linda Swan coming tonight who've turned on the lights for us and done a bit of singing inside the hall.
00:14And then we've got some street vendors that have come along to provide their services free of charge for our friends.
00:19We've had the choir, we've got a band, we've got some of the bands inside and we've got Santa.
00:24It's a lot of effort to organise. The team leaders do a cracking job but everybody just bucks in and does their bit.
00:30So today is the start of our Christmas celebration. So every day we have an advent gift for our friends.
00:37We know that the people that come to the People's Kitchen often have a really tough time over the Christmas period.
00:42So we make it as happy as possible.
00:44So the People's Kitchen is here seven days a week, 365 days a year.
00:49And it's all run by volunteers. So we've got no paid staff at all. Every single person's a volunteer.
00:55Which means that every time somebody donates or they come and help, it goes straight to the people in need.
01:01And that is about three times as many as we had sort of pre-Covid.
01:06So there's been a massive change and a massive uplift in the amount of people that come.
01:10Well obviously it's a great shame it's needed in the first place.
01:13But thankfully it's here. I want to thank all the volunteers who work very hard.
01:18And the impact of the People's Kitchen goes far beyond the meals they serve.
01:23Because they also provide somewhere warm. They provide companionship.
01:28And also they do provide services where someone needs help with housing issues or mental health issues.
01:34Things like that. They are here to help them and point them in the right direction.
