00:00One really important part of the identity of the City of Bristol is a celebration of
00:06inclusivity and diversity within the South West. And Bristol Pride have announced that
00:12they will be back for 2025 summer. Let's chat to their team to find out more.
00:18Yeah, yes, 2024 was incredible. We had such an amazing year. We had 47 events across 20
00:28venues in Bristol in the two weeks leading up to the big day, which was on the downs.
00:33And I don't know, the weather was incredible. The atmosphere was electric, like it was just
00:38such a joyful day.
00:41And why is it important for us to celebrate Pride in Bristol?
00:46Yeah, I mean, it is, as you say, a celebration, but it's also still unfortunately a severe
00:52protest. You know, as a community, the LGBT community still don't have the same rights
00:58as the rest of the community. So it's important to kind of help us to come together and stand
01:04up and collectively use our voices to say, actually, you know what, we exist and we should
01:10have equal rights. We shouldn't face prejudice and hatred. We need to stand up to the intolerance
01:16that is still unfortunately in society, even here in Bristol. And, you know, we've just
01:22seen over the last couple of years, hate crime towards the LGBT community, and certainly
01:28many aspects, parts of our community, have risen over the last few years. And it's becoming
01:35a really horrible place, you know, and to be and to fight for that equality is important.
01:42And that's why Pride is still needed. It's an opportunity to bring people together, to
01:49collectively, as I say, raise our voices and challenge that, but actually also to remind
01:55ourselves how big and wonderful and loving our community is as well.
