00:00In the issue of the sale of raw water to Singapore based on the 1962 IAEA agreement,
00:07the Malaysian government has taken a cautious and careful approach.
00:11Any changes to the status quo need to consider the implications
00:17for the cost of the procurement of water from Singapore,
00:21which is a critical need at this time for the state of Johor.
00:25This is important to ensure that any steps taken will not burden the people.
00:30This agreement allows Singapore to procure up to 250 million gallons per day
00:36or MGD, raw water from the river Johor, at a rate of 3 cents per 1,000 gallons.
00:44On the other hand, the state of Johor, at this time,
00:46buys water from Singapore at a rate of 50 cents per 1,000 gallons.
00:52Based on the record of the Johor Water Authority,
00:57Johor now buys an average of 16 million gallons of water per day,
01:03far exceeding the 5 million gallons required in the agreement.
01:09This causes an additional cost of around RM180,000 per year to be borne by the state of Johor.
01:15To reduce dependence on Singapore,
01:20the Zero Dependency Project has been approved and is being implemented.
01:26The target to achieve zero dependency by 2030
01:31may not be fully realized,
01:35taking into account the growth of the industry sector such as data centers and semiconductors.
01:41Therefore, the procurement of water from Singapore is still needed
01:45to meet the needs of the state of Johor.
01:48In this regard, the government continues to prioritize the opinions of the stakeholders.
01:54Based on the discussion in October 2024,
01:58together with the Honorable Minister of Johor and the Ministry,
02:02it was decided that the waste of raw water does not need to be collected for the time being.
