Van Dyck painting, Einstein letters on sale at Christie's Classic Week  An Anthony van Dyck portrait of a horse with a hidden landscape on the reverse will go under the hammer next week during Christie's 'Classic Week' events, where it could fetch up to $3.80 million. 'Andalusian Horse' is the 17th-century Flemish artist's earliest grand-scale depiction of a lone horse, according to the London auction house. The artwork, on offer at the Dec. 3 'Old Masters Part I' sale, has a 2 million-3 million pounds ($2.54 million-$3.80 million) price estimate. Christie's hosts a series of live sales from Dec. 2 and ongoing online sales as part of its Classic Week. 00:30What makes this painting unique is that it is not only van Dyck's earliest grand-scale

00:49depiction of a lone horse, but on the reverse, there is his only surviving landscape study.

00:56And then you've got a bank and then there's water here and there's actually, there's a

01:09lovely detail here where you've got the horse. It's a horse, it's a dog.

01:13Well, yeah, that's an interesting way of thinking about it. And given that the horse is vertical

01:25and the landscape on the reverse is horizontal, it's certainly something that you could hang

01:31and enjoy the horse and then you could turn it around and, you know, the other way and enjoy

01:38the landscape. And yeah, you do have, you have both options.

01:55So I think there should be broad demand. We've already had it on view in Paris, where it's been

02:01widely admired. And something like this is going to appeal to both private collectors and

02:06institutions. So it could end up anywhere.

02:25It totally depends on the quality. The question we always ask when we

02:55look at old master prints is how early were they printed? Are they really lifetime works?

03:01Because in some instances, his copper plates survived him by hundreds of years and were

03:08printed later on. So what we're always looking for is early works which were really printed

03:14by Rembrandt in his workshop at his time.

03:55Everything that we've included in this sale has been included because it's a great rarity,

04:16because it's of the highest quality. As I say, with the June Bible, it's thought to be one of

04:20just 10 that still exist. In terms of its popularity, of course, the recent film and TV

04:27adaptations do help. But of course, at the centre of all visualisations of the June universe is what

04:36Hodorovsky had planned. He has been an inspiration to Denis Villeneuve and others that have adapted

04:43June into cinema.

05:14Well, Harry Potter is always popular. It appeals to not only my generation that was growing up

05:22alongside Harry, but those immediately before and after me as well. And of course, its rarity

05:31only continues to get greater and greater. Only 500 copies of the first edition were ever printed,

05:37300 of which went straight to libraries and were often read into a state of disrepair.

05:43So it gives you a total of about 200 that might be in lovely order.

05:48And this is a particularly beautiful copy.
