Transcript
00:00Good morning, my name is Phil Hewitt, Group Arts Editor at Sussex Newspapers. Lovely to
00:06speak again to Peter Orwood. Now it's a fantastic year ahead for the Chantry Choir. You've just
00:11embarked on your 25th anniversary here, the successful launch to that season. Now you're
00:17letting your hair down to an extent with Sing Noel, Saturday, December the 14th in Arendelle.
00:23What is it? It's you getting festive, isn't it?
00:27We get in the festive spirit indeed we do, Phil, and we're inviting any who wish to come
00:34and join us for this occasion. It's set at 3.30 in the afternoon because we think that
00:41would be a good time for everybody who's been out Christmas shopping, maybe been out over
00:46lunch, been to the market. Things are beginning to close down at that time and they can just
00:51walk up the hill, come to St Nicholas Church, sit down, relax for a while, bring the family,
00:57friends, relax. It will only last for about an hour.
01:01After all the commercialism, they can lift their soul somewhat.
01:03They can and they can join in the singing of some carols as well and or just sit back and
01:08listen to the choir sing. And yes, so we hope that it will help everybody to continue getting
01:14into the festive spirit.
01:16Slightly surprisingly, this is a new venture for the choir, isn't it?
01:19Oh, quite new.
01:20You haven't traditionally done a Christmas event, have you?
01:22No, we haven't traditionally done it. No, we did one last year and it went down so well.
01:27We thought we'd do it again.
01:29But as I say, we just brought it slightly earlier because we think the timing will work
01:33better for everybody.
01:34So 3.30 St Nicholas Church on the 14th.
01:37And yeah, we're looking forward to that.
01:40And then on the 19th, you have a date at Goodwood House and that will be a lovely way to round off
01:46this year.
01:47Yes, Goodwood House have decided for the first time, I think, to have a really beautiful,
01:52wonderful festive occasion there of carols.
01:57And the audience can either come at six o'clock on the 19th to enjoy singing some carols together
02:04and listening to the choir and having some beautiful refreshments and so on, or they
02:09can come a little earlier if they wish and enjoy afternoon tea in the glorious ballroom
02:14at Goodwood.
02:14And a smaller group of us will be singing some carols during that event as well.
02:20So it sounds a lot of fun, a lot of fun.
02:22It sounds brilliant.
02:23Well, lovely to speak to you again, Peter.
02:25Have a lovely Christmas.
02:27Thanks very much, you too.
02:28All the best.
02:29All the best.
