The town of Bewdley prepares for flooding
Transcript
00:00Hello, I'm James McMirovich and I'm here in Bewdley. This is the River Severn next to me and over the last few days, because of storm bursts and the residual effects of that, we've seen the water level rising. We've seen the water level rushing along there, heading downstream.
00:14At the moment, according to the government website, it's 4.12 metres. The highest it's ever been around here, which was in 2000, was 5.56 metres.
00:23We're used to seeing, in the streets over there by Bales Corner, the flood water going right up to street level. At the moment, it's not there, but we're down here to sort of see what's going on with that.
00:33You can see a bit of residual flood water in the area down there and also, like I said, the water level's going on there.
00:39And over on that part of the River Severn, the flood defences are up, so it's not as bad here at the moment as it could be, but we'll have to see what happens as the morning progresses along.
00:54As you can see, obviously we've been over at Bales Corner, we've seen what's going on there. There's no flooding there yet, but if you get to this side of the town, where obviously down there you've got the flood defences, which are protecting the main part of the town from getting wet.
01:06However, if you wanted to go for a walk along the Severn this morning, you're not going to be able to walk along here because you can see the flooding has already got up to the step here.
01:13There's been flooding, there's seats flooded. If you keep going further down, you can see the areas that have been cut off by the river flowing.
01:20And it's quite an intense flow as well at the moment, so it's been predicted to fall by this afternoon, but for now, the flooding is still causing a level of effect here in Beaudley.
