00:00they just think plastic surgery. Almost everyone has had something done. I used to get this all
00:05the time. You don't look Indian enough. I don't want some younger looking at me and thinking
00:10why is she lying? Hi this is Shruti Haasan for Brute.
00:14I don't judge or I don't say it's wrong for the actors who have had stuff and don't talk about
00:31it. That's fine. That's your call. But I think people should be aware that almost everyone has
00:35had something done and it's okay. They want to feel better. Even non-actors, even women who are
00:42just housewives, women who work in corporate or women who work in the medical field or teachers
00:47or fillers. It's fine. It's what they want to do and I would just say do it if you feel like. Don't
00:55do it as a societal pressure and I guess that's the reason I spoke about it. I don't want some
01:01younger looking at me and thinking why is she lying? We can see she's changed it. I just don't
01:06want to lie about it. So I didn't. Do you know what I mean? That was my perception.
01:26I started off as a personal choice and then in between they were just like your face is really
01:30I used to get this all the time. You don't look Indian enough. Your face is really narrow and
01:36long. Somebody told me I look like Keanu Reeves once. So I was just like okay and I did. I
01:44rounded my face and I experimented with the shape of my face and while I was experimenting nobody
01:50had a problem. It was fine. They were like you're so perfect. You're so pretty. Then I was like no
01:54I want to look how I want to look like the way I am. Then it's like why has she done this? You
02:00know what? It doesn't matter. It's my face. I did it at one point. I don't do it anymore.
02:07It's fine. You want to do it? Do it. You don't want to do it? Don't do it. Everyone needs to
02:11just chill out about this a little bit. Like poking, cancelling according to what how somebody
02:18wants to live their life. Just like leave it. The people who are like ill-equipped to understand how
02:23things work so they don't they just think plastic surgery and I'm like no no that's not what we're
02:29talking about. So then I said okay this is my opportunity to educate people on the options they
02:35have and what it is versus take it personally. So mostly I would say I got support for being
02:42honest about my journey. It is about for me quintessentially celebrating and giving us
02:59a safe and artistic space to express darkness in the way that I cherish and understand it.
03:08The other thing is it's also a love song to oneself about finding the inner monster,
03:14not denying it, not trying to fix it and not trying to heal it but to love it and give that
03:20monster a hug and accept it. I just want to tell people like it's been such a challenge because
03:25people have just been like why aren't you singing in an Indian language. I've had the
03:28opportunity through playback to sing in so many very many languages but be it Monster Machine or
03:35the other songs I'm doing like it's so important for me to say my story and I write it in English.
03:42I grew up listening to English music and I've always wanted to be a part of the Indians who
03:46make English music. It's not to be unpatriotic or anything because I get a lot of that like
03:52so why don't you speak in Hindi? Why don't you sing in Hindi?
03:56But this is my language of comfort and expressing my story.
