Transcript
00:00I need constant chaos in my life to feel content.
00:02F***ing a bunch of hoes and champagne and going crazy.
00:05This is Andrew Tate, a controversial internet celebrity
00:08dubbed the king of toxic masculinity by his followers
00:11and the scariest man on the internet by his critics.
00:14By masculine standards, the majority of beautiful women are losers.
00:18Now he's being detained in Romania,
00:20charged with human trafficking and forming an organized crime group.
00:25But who is Andrew Tate?
00:30There's a large contingent of men out there who don't want to wear makeup,
00:34who don't want to be girls, who want to have money,
00:36who want to have hot chicks and there's nothing wrong with us.
00:39Born in the US but raised mostly in England,
00:42Tate started as a professional kickboxer winning several world titles.
00:46Most dudes to look like me have to give up their entire life to look like me.
00:49I can do it as a hobby on the side.
00:52He gained notoriety appearing on the UK edition of Big Brother in 2016
00:56but was kicked off of the reality show after a video surfaced
01:00appearing to show him hitting a woman with a belt.
01:03Tate and the woman denied any abuse occurred and said the clips showed consensual sex.
01:08From there, past tweets in which Tate had used homophobic and racial slurs emerged.
01:13On social media, Tate became a vocal supporter of former president Donald Trump,
01:18even flying to the US to meet with his son Donald Trump Jr.
01:22I like Trump. He's grabbing bitches by the pussy. I like that guy.
01:25He was spotted around Washington DC with prominent conspiracy theorists
01:29and appeared on right-wing talk shows like Alex Jones' Infowars.
01:34You were to get 100 liberals and 100 conservatives and have a royal rumble,
01:36who are you betting on?
01:37And these liberals are just pushing their agenda of absolute degeneratism.
01:41He began styling himself as a self-help influencer for men,
01:46finding a home among the Manosphere, an online anti-feminist movement.
01:50Women should clean up.
01:52Not only should women clean up, women should clean up unprompted.
01:55Imagine this, you wake up in the morning and you're Tate.
01:58The bitch here, the bitch here.
02:00Move them hoes out of the way.
02:01He faced increasing backlash to his misogynistic comments and was banned from Twitter in 2017
02:07for saying women bear some responsibility for being sexually assaulted.
02:11But the backlash didn't stop him from amassing a massive social media following
02:15on platforms like YouTube, Facebook and TikTok,
02:18with a large share of his following coming from teens.
02:21You can't slander me because I will state right now that I am absolutely sexist
02:25and I'm absolutely a misogynist and I have money and you can't take it away.
02:29At the same time, he was promoting an online marketing program,
02:33Hustlers University, for a monthly membership fee of $49.
02:36You're in the most fantastic place on the planet for making money, Hustlers University.
02:40Tate claimed that the program would give members, quote,
02:43high income skill development in fields like copywriting, crypto and investing.
02:48You want to escape, that's why you joined.
02:50You don't want to be a loser anymore.
02:52Exist inside Hustlers University.
02:54Become Hustlers University.
02:55In August 2022, Tate's prolific online presence brought renewed scrutiny
03:01and he was banned from YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter,
03:05with the social media companies citing violations of their hate speech policies.
03:09I don't feel very canceled.
03:10In fact, I feel like everything's better than it's ever been.
03:15Despite the bans, online users continued to share and react to Tate's content
03:20in millions of posts.
03:21Tate was back in the social media spotlight that December
03:24after he tweeted climate activist Greta Thunberg
03:27a picture saying he owned 33 cars and asking for her contact information.
03:32Thunberg responded with a fake email address mocking him.
03:36Greta's email address is, I have small detergent.
03:39The next day, things came to a head for the king of toxic masculinity
03:44when he was arrested alongside his brother by Romanian authorities.
03:47The pair had been under investigation since April
03:50after the U.S. embassy contacted Romanian authorities
03:53with information about a U.S. citizen being held against their will.
03:57Tate had moved to Romania from the U.K. in 2017,
04:01citing his belief that the Eastern European country
04:04was less likely to investigate sexual assault cases.
04:07People say, why do you live in Romania?
04:08And I explain my five reasons.
04:10One of them is the Me Too era.
04:11They go, oh, well, you're a rapist.
04:13I say, no, I'm not a rapist.
04:14But I like the idea of being able to just say to do what I want.
04:18I like being free.
