00:00What's up, guys? Don't forget to sun your perineum.
00:02POV, you're standing over me. I wouldn't want to be standing over this.
00:21There are many studies that show...
00:22What studies?
00:24Men who expose their chest to sun notice a 120% increase in testosterone,
00:29whereas men who expose their perineum and undercarriage to the sun
00:34notice as much of an increase as 200% in testosterone.
00:38Now, these studies you will not find on the mainstream media.
00:42Oh, of course you won't.
00:43Because most of the health studies that get funded
00:45are funded by the larger corporations that run the world.
00:48Gotta be a conspiracy theory involved in everything.
00:51So, this idea of perineum sunning is basically the practice
00:58of exposing the perineal area, which is the area between the anus and the genitals,
01:06to sunlight for a set amount of time per day.
01:09I think it's quite telling that some of the people who are proponents of this practice say,
01:14hey, you're never going to find this data because it's not out there, because it doesn't exist.
01:19In addition to that, I say, you know,
01:21these people could be creating the perfect storm of risk factors for skin cancer.
01:29Or you spend a lot of money on skincare products.
01:31Just hold on.
01:32Just go buy Head & Shoulders and wash your face with it and see what happens.
01:36I've seen this video too many times.
01:37I have been using the Walmart version of Head & Shoulders on my face since I was like in middle school
01:41because I had a dermatologist tell me the zinc in dandruff shampoo is incredible for your face.
01:46Never had a problem with my skin.
01:48Always had clear skin.
01:49And it wasn't until I stopped that I started getting all of these breakouts on my chin.
01:53So the active ingredient in a lot of dandruff shampoos is something called zinc pyrithione.
02:01Does it have any activity against acne?
02:05The data says maybe. Specifically,
02:08they seem like they're more helpful in combination with topical antibiotics,
02:13which are more often used for acne.
02:15Now, is this something that somebody with acne should run out and do right away?
02:22Probably not.
02:23If it were one of my patients,
02:24I would probably steer them towards using one of those tried-and-true therapies that we have actual,
02:30like, high-level data, randomized control trials,
02:34years of safety data about versus using something that there's,
02:39you know, maybe just like a hint of an idea that it might work.
02:46About to go to sleep, but I'm going to try to slug,
02:49which is where you basically put a bunch of Vaseline all over your face after your skincare.
02:54It's just supposed to lock in all the moisture.
02:56This is my skin with no filter, and I use very drying acne medications on my skin right now.
03:01I also use tretinoin.
03:03It's actually been shown that using something like petrolatum
03:07on the skin does reduce transepidermal water loss across the skin,
03:11theoretically keeping moisture in your skin.
03:15Petrolatum itself is not supposed to be comedogenic,
03:18meaning it won't clog pores,
03:20but that's not to say that every one of these products may not clog your pores,
03:24and everybody's skin's a little bit different.
03:27It's definitely something that I think is better suited for people
03:30who are more on the dry side than they are the oily side.
03:37I tried these hydrocolloid patches for my entire face,
03:40and to say the least, it hurt so bad when I was trying to take it off.
03:42I was planning to go back to sleep after filming this video,
03:44but these patches woke me up.
03:46That looks painful.
03:47Hydrocolloid material is something that was originally used,
03:51you know, in wound dressings.
03:53They've now been used in various pimple products, specifically pimple patches,
03:58and I actually do like them for certain applications
04:01since they do absorb excess fluid and oil.
04:06However, using it across the whole face,
04:09I'm not sure that there would be quite so much of a benefit.
04:12Yeah, sure, you're gonna see some stuff on it,
04:15which is the hydrocolloid material that's absorbed fluid,
04:19but that's not truly, you know, gunk that's coming out of your face.
04:23Some of it is regular sebum,
04:25so that's the oil that our skin produces naturally.
04:29So, you know, the benefit of doing it for your whole face is probably not that great.
04:39I'm gonna apply this to half my face.
04:41Okay, here we go.
04:44Guys, this is crazy.
04:45And on to applying foundation with this beauty tool,
04:47which you guys think it's hilarious, but it's just a beauty tool.
04:50It looks like a tongue.
04:51Okay, let's apply it on this side.
04:53I'd like to say off the bat that as a dermatologist,
04:56I've never recommended calamine lotion for anything.
05:00It is kind of an older remedy that's used for irritation, bug bites, things like that.
05:06The way this trend came about is that it's actually kind of an old trick
05:10that makeup artists used to use,
05:13and I've talked to some makeup artists about this,
05:15and kind of the sense that I've gotten is that it's something that absorbs oil really well.
05:20Where this becomes an issue is that calamine lotion,
05:24especially when used repeatedly, could dry out and irritate your skin.
05:28In my opinion, it might be better to go for a more standard makeup priming product
05:34that will be easier on your skin and is actually intended for that purpose.
05:39I know it's really hard sometimes to parse out
05:43what information you're getting on social media is useful or evidence-backed,
05:47and which isn't.
05:48One of the things that I would say is, you know,
05:51see if the person talking about these different trends
05:55is able to actually back up what they're saying
05:59with more than just their personal experience.
06:02Definitely find some trusted experts that you could follow on social media,
06:07like dermatologists when it comes to skincare,
06:09who can help you really figure out what's true, what's not,
06:14and what should be taken with a grain of salt.
