00:10Brooke can explain in less than 60 seconds. Two plane modes of roughly 50 migrants,
00:14most originating from Venezuela, arrived without warning to the wealthy Massachusetts island. And
00:19while locals were initially confused by the arrival, the town moved quickly to provide
00:23COVID-19 tests, food, and clothing. The migrants said that they began their day in San Antonio,
00:29but it was Florida Governor Ron DeSantis who claimed responsibility for the move.
00:32A spokesperson from DeSantis' office said it was a part of Florida's program
00:37to transport undocumented immigrants to so-called sanctuary destinations. These sanctuary cities
00:43are states and localities that do not comply with the strict federal immigration policies.
00:47The state of Florida alone has set aside $12 million for this program. GOP-led states have
00:52pulled similar moves in recent months, shipping busloads of migrants to Washington D.C. and New
00:57York City.
