00:00Idaho just adopted some of the most extreme anti-abortion laws in the country.
00:04So what do the new regulations prohibit and what are the punishments?
00:07Brute can explain in less than 60 seconds.
00:09In Idaho, it is now illegal to help minors travel outside of the state
00:12to get an abortion without their parents' permission.
00:14It will be a crime punishable by two to five years in prison,
00:17and it would apply to anyone who aids a minor in obtaining
00:20either a procedural or medicated abortion outside of the state.
00:24The new law also allows parents and guardians to sue individuals
00:27who help their children get out-of-state abortions.
00:29It is currently illegal to get an abortion at any stage of pregnancy in Idaho.
00:34The only exceptions in the state are cases that involve rape,
00:37incest, or if the mother's life is in jeopardy.
00:39Abortion advocates fear that this bill,
00:41which currently only applies to minors,
00:43could potentially pave the way for more expansive legislation,
00:47like ones that can make it a crime to help even adults obtain out-of-state abortions.
00:51The law is one of the first of its kind in the country
00:53and will go into effect starting early May.
