00:00With four seasons and 21 Emmys, Netflix's The Crown has influenced the world's perception of
00:05the British monarchy. The hit series portrays the reign of Queen Elizabeth II and lifts the veil on
00:10Britain's ruling family. Critics say much of the show's appeal comes from how it has humanized the
00:15royals, which starkly contrasts the mainstream press coverage of the royal family. Historian
00:20Greg Jenner explained that The Crown accentuates how removed and unknowable the monarchy is,
00:24but by portraying their life as a soap opera, it makes viewers believe that they know more
00:29about them than they actually do. While Buckingham Palace has never publicly acknowledged The Crown,
00:33historians believe the monarchy understands that its existence helps lift the royal image.
00:38Following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, Peter Morgan, writer of The Crown,
00:42said that he expects production on season six will stop filming out of respect for a period
00:47of time. Quote, The Crown is a love letter to her and I have nothing to add for now,
00:51just silence and respect, said Morgan.
