00:00A four-day workweek schedule was tested within 61 companies,
00:03and it was so successful that 92% of businesses said they'd keep it.
00:06So how did the trial work, and what were the benefits of the new schedule?
00:09Brooke can explain in less than 60 seconds.
00:11In the world's largest four-day workweek trial,
00:132,900 employees across a variety of industries in the UK
00:17went from working 40-hour weeks to an average of 34.
00:20And yes, the pay remained the same.
00:22Out of the 61 participating companies,
00:2456 said that they'd continue using the new schedule,
00:27and 18 of those 56 said the change would be permanent.
00:30Employees who participated in the six-month trial
00:32reported better work-life balance, less stress, and improved mental health.
00:36And most employers agreed productivity remained the same,
00:39despite the shorter workweek.
00:41Some say four-day workweeks can lead to higher job retention,
00:44improved recruitment, and less sickness among employees.
00:46But the concept still faces hurdles in becoming the new norm,
00:49especially for larger companies and in industries
00:52where around-the-clock labor is needed,
00:54like nursing and emergency services.
