00:00Valtoum may have taken his life but the core gave him another. here's your look
00:04at the McFarland toys DC multiverse the platinum edition Solomon Bass power ring
00:30he was once a getaway driver with a fearsome reputation until he took a job
00:40delivering a bomb to a concert arriving at the venue Solomon relented unable to
00:44bring himself to blow up the young concert goers questioning his identity
00:48and overcome with insecurity Solomon was soon selected to become the new host and
00:53victim of the ring of Valtoum when his life was inevitably consumed by the ring
00:57Solomon joined the other deceased ring bearers of the power ring core in the
01:01green realm there he remained buried in the dirt until called upon to face his
01:06earth zero counterparts mmm doppelgangers with rings they could do
01:09some dangerous things how about before we see the things that he can actually
01:12do with his ring let's take the tape measure and see how tall Solomon Bass
01:15stands not Simon Bass this is the evil version of him we're gonna take the tape
01:19measure we're gonna go right to the very top of his head and while I'm doing this
01:22as well I'd like to thank the folks over at McFarland toys that made this review
01:25possible by providing the sample we're looking at Solomon Bass actually is
01:29gonna stand the same assignment he's seven inches in height or roughly about
01:3317 and a half centimeters tall as for Simon yeah we already had a look at him
01:37gonna slide over the platinum edition power ring get him to actually stand
01:42here I don't know why he's nuts there we go let's bring in the original Green
01:45Lantern members Simon Bass same mold same essentially the same identity other
01:50than just again a different coat of paint you can see one of the smart
01:53things that they actually did was not only be meaning that they're using the
01:56swappable face plates gives us a different expression right out of the
01:58packaging but also as well it looks like because a lot of theirs cosmetic changes
02:02were only just cosmetic it means they can drastically change the suit with
02:05just a different coat of paint unfortunately because he is a platinum
02:07edition it means that Solomon has the same accessories as Simon the figure
02:11first of all comes in clear with a trading card now this is the same card
02:14that we get with Simon which would be fine if they had a different read up on
02:17the back unfortunately though it doesn't this would be normally a time where I
02:21would say that you don't even have to read this because I've already read at
02:23the beginning of the review this time though I didn't I actually took the
02:27background information for a Solomon from DC database a shout out to DC
02:31database because I wasn't gonna be able to find anything about Solomon on the
02:34back of Simon's card which essentially is the exact same card now you also get
02:38as well the exact same display stand I mean I don't think anyone's gonna be
02:40crying foul for the fact that we get the exact same stand because we get always
02:43the same stands but because this is also the polished treatment we get also the
02:47DC logo done in silver instead of just the black the figure also comes include
02:52the exact same accessories so if you're familiar with the stuff that comes with
02:55Simon you're familiar already with the things that come include with Solomon
02:58the figure comes included first of all with his green green lantern now I'm
03:02gonna bring in the one that we got here from Simon exactly the same which is
03:06fine because I can borrow this around to other green lanterns too it doesn't have
03:09to necessarily belong to Simon and Solomon solely no yeah I can probably
03:12use this with other green lantern figures the plastic itself we already
03:16talked about I mean we're probably gonna be covering off the lay of the
03:19land I mean if you're experiencing the date sense of deja vu you're gonna be
03:22experiencing a lot of that when we look at like the face plates and the
03:25accessories the plastic though for the lantern is pretty soft pretty malleable
03:30but nice overall like lantern there's not no fault at all I wouldn't really
03:34complain about the fact that we actually get ourselves another lantern because it
03:36doesn't have to necessarily be used with Simon or Solomon I might even just in
03:40fact maybe use this with Hal Jordan instead I don't know the figure also
03:43does come include this gauntlet and I'm gonna again to be doing this a lot with
03:47all these accessories I'm gonna bring in the one from Simon exactly the same hey
03:51this would have been also perfect if they have found a way to mirror flip
03:54this so you could have had a gauntlet on this side you could have had a gauntlet
03:57on this side and said you can't because of course the thumbs will always be on
04:00the exact same side there's no way of fooling you could put it on the other
04:03side if you want to but you will know you'll secretly know that you're not
04:07you're not fooling anybody the detail can't be overlooked obviously for what
04:11they've sculpted here even though it's being done here and translucent green
04:14plastic it still looks fantastic he also comes included with the drill bit hands
04:18and all these hands by the way or all the accessories I should say really kind
04:22of work better with this hand because the hand is a little on the more smaller
04:25side if you see my review of Simon again carries over here as well for Solomon
04:29the same drill bit attachment also came included with Simon I'm gonna hope that
04:33I'm not gonna be mixing up the names over the course of this review Simon
04:37they pretty they sound pretty similar they both also start with anyways you
04:42get the drill bit attachment you also as well get the exact same hammer the
04:48hammer can also fit obviously in his hand but the thing I mentioned also is
04:51Simon carries over here for Solomon it does look like the head of the hammer is
04:54separate piece of plastic than the rest of the handle and again this whole time
04:58of talking about this obviously out of the packaging the figure does have a
05:02gripping hand and then he has a ring bearing hand so already you'll know right
05:06away which hand holds the hammer if you were to guess this side you'd be wrong I
05:11hate to say it I hate to draw everybody out and like everybody's gonna be
05:14looking at you right now but you're wrong you can't do anything you have you
05:17any holding at all with a hand that he has on this side so all the hand holding
05:21things will be obviously on this side that would be the hammer that would be
05:25also as well the lantern all the other things by the way though like the drill
05:29bit can just yeah when you are putting in place though if you look at it I don't
05:33know if I spent a whole lot of time talking about this when we looked at
05:35Simon's you can definitely see that there's a distinct shape on the top it's
05:39not just a perfect circle so when you're putting on his hand you'll notice that
05:42one way doesn't really quite work you have to kind of turn it around and it
05:46fits it seems to fit just a little bit better I say that now I say that now
05:50anyways it does fit onto his hands I think it might I might just end up doing
05:55it where I display perhaps Solomon with this accessory just because it's a
05:58meaner looking construct and maybe keep the more I don't wanna say like the
06:02tamer things to be included with Simon have it displayed with that figure and
06:06of course if you wanted to you take yourself the I mean this is an easy one
06:10to figure out it's just basically that the thumbs are gonna be facing upward
06:12like this but the the infinity gauntlet if you will it's probably the easiest
06:16thing to attach onto his hand let's just remove those accessories right now now
06:21also too because the figure does have the exact same mold he's also sharing
06:24the exact same face bait swappable face plates now out of the packaging he
06:28already comes with pretty much the head that face plate that I would want to use
06:31when it comes to displaying the figure I like the kind of more sinister look
06:35for his face if we grab the one that came included with Simon's no it's not
06:40that one no it's not that one it's this one right here the only thing that's
06:43really different obviously is a different coat of paints but also that
06:45the power ring version of Solomon doesn't have pupils you can see that
06:49Simon does I think it was a little meaner of a face for I think for Simon
06:54but I think it works perfectly for Solomon now he has that head sculpt he
06:58also has this one which is a pretty good one to go with to kind of bit of an
07:02a cocky smile I think that would work really well with a character like power
07:05ring he also has that one and he also has just a defaulted face all of them
07:10are missing pupils you won't find it at all with this one but if you wanted to
07:14you could technically take the face plate off this one just to show you guys
07:18that is using the exact same I'm gonna use the one we got here for Simon all it
07:22is is there's a hole right here looks kind of just strange really without it
07:25and there's the peg right there just line the two up same mold same use of
07:30face plates so if you want to mix and match you really could technically do
07:33that I mean hey why not let's bring back in Simon just gonna stand here for a
07:37second you can take Simon's just remove his face plates and mix and match just
07:43like that crisscross applesauce swap them out crisscross applesauce probably
07:47doesn't make as much sense here but at least you get the idea you can change
07:50the face plates really if you wanted to so let's just put them back the way that
07:54we left it last thing I would want to do is have this guy displayed with the
07:57wrong face that Nicolas Cage maybe John Travolta I don't know let's move that
08:01off to the side and then obviously let's put back on the proper face plate so
08:06while he loses obviously a little bit of the darker green the outlining the
08:09brighter green what he gets treated to instead is the white face plate and
08:13let's just grab yeah that's that's good head to go with pop that back in place
08:18as for the rest of the bodies because again like there's very little tooling
08:22that was required for the bodies themselves like even with the original
08:25insignia for Green Lantern because it wasn't actually a raised piece to the
08:29mold it means that so easily they could take essentially the exact same mold and
08:33just use it not only just for Simon and Solomon but also yeah this mold could be
08:37easily used again for down the road I mean I can already think right away that
08:41would be a perfect body for like a wild cat even a Superman I know we already
08:45have enough Superman's already but you know like that's a good building block a
08:49good mold to start with when it comes to other DC multiverse figures down the
08:52road like Wildcat right away is the one I was kind of really thinking about so
08:56like because of there's no additional tooling that's required no sculpting
08:59over top of the layer of the build of the body it's so easy for them just to
09:03print whatever they want to print on the front so instead what we get is not so
09:06much the Green Lantern symbol but we get the power ring symbol instead it's
09:10fairly accurate to the way it looks in the comics but the white is nicely done
09:13though I mean one of the things I really think that could be a problem generally
09:16with white paint when you're putting on top of plastic is there's always the
09:19worry that there's gonna be bleed underneath that you could probably see
09:21and look at that and say you know I don't know probably could have used
09:24another coat of paint I'm not looking at that I'm not thinking to myself it needs
09:28a second coat of paint it's painted well here in the shoulders it's certainly
09:30painted well here in front of the body very clean lines too there's nothing at
09:34all that I'm looking at here and I'm thinking boy they made a mistake maybe
09:37there's a little bit of white that's bleeding down on the side but I'm not
09:40like it looks good of course it does still have the socket joints on the
09:43sides now these aren't so much joints as they are basically concealment joints
09:46when you are moving like his arms about for example it's obviously gonna be
09:49breaking up the seamless look for the line what they've done here though is if
09:52you have the arms in a neutral position it continues somewhat the same form and
09:57they've just done it in white initially I kind of thought like that would have
10:00looked better in black but then it would have just cut the section between the
10:03shoulders and the torso white would have to have been the better way better route
10:06to have gone but I don't know like it's a good-looking figure I really like the
10:10mold initially when we looked at Simon I think like now when we get Solomon
10:13Solomon Baz like just as a power ring and the evil doppelganger for Simon the
10:18mold not only works really well for him but they painted it really well too the
10:22one thing that you'll also see too is that his arm his arm has a little bit of
10:27like the markings here on the side I have to go back and like look at the
10:29comics I don't know if that's supposed to be a tattoo or he does have like
10:34unfinished like you can almost even see like there's a little bit of either
10:37paint that's this been smudged across the plastic or again if it's intentional
10:42I have to go again back and look at the comics now with Simon Simon had the
10:47tattoo marking on the interior of his forearm Solomon doesn't have that he
10:51just has all these like smudgings on his one arm I gotta feel like it's
10:54intentional because if you look at his other arm his other arms completely
10:57clean again the only other paint that you're pretty much gonna be getting here
11:01is down below here in his boots again the whites really done well here and
11:04that's a nice additional lining of the green on top of that it's a very clean
11:07looking figure for the figures articulation if you're familiar with
11:10Simon you'll be familiar with Solomon heads gonna be on the exact same system
11:14so the heads on a ball joint it's gonna allow the head to rotate all the way
11:16around it can look down quite low up high as well and you can also rock it
11:21back for two shoulders easily rotate all the way around easily as well you can
11:26bring them out at 90 degrees even probably a little bit more than 90
11:28degrees there is a bicep swivel of course there is double hinge on the
11:32elbow and hands rotate all the way around just before we move actually
11:35further forward I want one to also show you guys what the ring looks like I mean
11:40it's essentially I mean it's sculpted there but it's really hard to kind of
11:44make out that that looks like a ring meanwhile though the upper torso is on
11:47a very generous bulge right equally as well there's a bulge right at the base
11:50for the abdomen now when you're looking at the legs just above the legs and just
11:54be before the torso and the legs you can see like his trunks it's the only other
11:58thing I really wish that they could have done differently the trunks are more of
12:01a matte black and yet though you can see the torso is a shinier plot black and
12:05down below of course the legs are a shinier black it disrupts just a little
12:09bit of what normally would be a seamless look to the figure figures body just by
12:12because they use the more matte softer plastic for his torso it's the only
12:16other thing I probably would have changed that but again like the legs do
12:18split up you can bring them forward you can bring them back there's a swivel
12:22there at the top the thigh double hinge on the knee no articulation at all for
12:26the boot however though however there's an ankle pivot there's an ankle rocker
12:30and Solomon bass I'm so glad I haven't yet botched this Solomon bass does have
12:35again toe articulation there as well is it a good figure yes it is I mean to be
12:39fair it was a good figure already when we looked at Simon before still though
12:43I feel plagued that I can't get this guy to stand ever it's almost like the
12:46figure doesn't need a display stand oh right yeah he does anyways though
12:50bringing back in Simon this worked also better as well because I wanted to look
12:54at these figures separately wasn't just a kid again a case like yes it is really
12:58essentially the same mold and it but it isn't like a Malibu Stacy where we're
13:02simply just giving him a completely different hat in the comics he exists as
13:05a doppelganger he exists as a doppelganger just Simon so realistically
13:09I mean if you're gonna get any mileage out of a mold why not take a character
13:12that's a doppelganger works for flash when we have reverse flash it works very
13:16well with any of Solomon and Simon bass two figures that essentially are sharing
13:20the exact same mold two figures that are sharing somewhat the exact same well
13:23they are sharing the exact same accessories the only other thing I would
13:27say is while it doesn't bother me as much that they're sharing the same
13:29weapons I really wish that they could have not shared the exact same cards had
13:33they only found a way to just digitally change perhaps like instead the mass
13:36being green maybe they made it white instead but at the very least maybe had
13:40they just changed the read up on the back so that it wasn't Simon on both
13:43cases because it clearly isn't Simon when you get two figure releases like
13:46this I tried to look online to see if I could find comic artwork of Solomon bass
13:50just to see if the smudging on his arm was correct or not sure enough whatever
13:54images I could find all had Solomon standing but his one arm was dark like
13:58that but I don't know if that was just intentionally or if it was just because
14:01there was shadow cast on that one side of his body however though I did look up
14:05online other images of this figure and it seems that whatever pictures I've
14:09been able to find all reinstate the same idea that that smudging is there
14:13intentionally not accidental or if it was accidental it seems to be on more
14:18copies than just mine if you are familiar enough with the character let
14:21me know down below in the comment section if the darkness on his only one
14:24side of his arm is supposed to be there or not other than that though obviously
14:28the figure is sharing the exact same body as Simon that's not a bad thing at
14:31all if you're gonna have a doppelganger then it makes the most sense that he's
14:35gonna be obviously using the exact same body as the hero he's based from it
14:38worked for flash it works really well for Simon here too
14:41it meaningly though I would have loved that this guy could have had different
14:44accessories than came in clue with Simon just because they're sharing the exact
14:48same things at least he has enough of them that Simon can have his fair share
14:52of accessories and Solomon can have his the only thing that's a little
14:55disappointing is that the card has the exact same name I mean yeah the readup
14:59could have probably also been copied over but at the very least if real name
15:02of Simon Baz could've been only changed the Solomon even if the readup at all
15:06has nothing to do with Solomon at least it would make me feel like the cards
15:09were a little bit different from one another but they are identical
15:12everything about this figure from the body to the accessories to the trading
15:15card to the display stand are identical but that's not a bad thing at all
15:19considering that we already started with a good figure to work with what do you
