00:28It's possible that it is a carcass of a whale or a whale shark.

00:31Maybe it's a kind of big padi or stingray.

00:34In their area, it's called salanggay.

00:36But is salanggay what they saw in the Dumanhug pool?

00:44The carcass seen in Dumanhug, Cebu, is believed to be the body of a giant oceanic manta ray.

00:50What kind of sea creature is this?

00:52The giant oceanic manta ray is a species of padi or ray.

00:56This is the largest ray in the world.

00:58It can reach up to 29 feet.

01:00But even though it's a huge fish, it eats a very small amount.

01:03It eats an almost microscopic sea plankton.

01:06Giant oceanic manta ray can be seen in deep waters of tropical and subtropical seas

01:12such as the Pacific Ocean, Indian Ocean, and Caribbean Sea.

01:15But is it possible that a carcass or abyss of a giant oceanic manta ray was found in Cebu?

01:21According to the initial investigation by BIFAR Region 7,

01:24its body is in an advanced state of decomposition.

01:27There are already a lot of reported cases.

01:30Most probably, it's a whale.

01:32There's also a possibility that it's a shark.

01:34And the only way to confirm this

01:36is to sample for taxonomic identification.

01:39If you do the DNA test, it will cost money.
