00:00Liverpool Beatles Museum have unveiled its latest acquisition.
00:04The green room furniture from Hume Hall in Port Sunlight serves to underline
00:08two important milestones on the Fab Four's journey to stardom.
00:12Ringo Starr's first performance with the band and the Beatles' first interview.
00:17Prior to the Beatles' performance on the 27th of October 1962,
00:21the group was interviewed by Monty Lister for patients of local hospitals at Cleve and Clatterbridge.
00:26Legendary Liverpool radio presenter Billy Butler has first-hand knowledge of those early days.
00:32It's wonderful to see somebody like Monty recognised. He was so far ahead of his time.
00:36He interviewed people who we only dreamed about when Monty interviewed them and he never told
00:43anyone. You know, it was Spencer Lee actually who dubbed him for Major. Spencer then interviewed
00:48all these people. I couldn't believe it. There's a man who sat in the same dressing room with
00:53Eddie Cochran and Billy Fiore.
00:55The interview was broadcast on hospital radio the next day on Lister's regular show Sunday Spin.
01:01And the fact that he had a record player on the table and I was playing the records and putting
01:06my arm on the record as it went round and everything at the very start and then he
01:10organised disc jockey sessions at Gladstone Hall for lunchtime. You know, incredible.
01:16This was the first ever interview given by the Beatles to be broadcast on the radio.
01:21Hulme Hall was also the location of Ringo Starr's first engagement with the Beatles
01:25on the 18th of August 1962.
01:28The Beatles' first ever radio interview is fascinating not just as an historical artefact
01:33but because of its content being a typically witty exchange holding many of the ingredients
01:38that, not long after, would combine to produce the musical and cultural phenomenon we know of today.
01:44Stuff there that probably at that time the papers didn't know about.
01:48Especially with Paul saying John's the leader of the group.
01:51The three items of furniture also visible in photos of the band also on display
01:55were retrieved during a recent renovation.
