00:40The father of Mary Jane Veloso, the Filipina on Indonesian death row about to be transferred
00:44to the Philippines, appeals to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
00:48Please keep her safe from her illegal recruiter.
00:50In a DZBB radio interview, Cesar Veloso first appealed to Marcos for clemency.
00:56But he says,
00:57If he must still detain her, I hope they keep her in a safe place because we are afraid.
01:01Cristina Serio threatened us about how they were part of an international syndicate.
01:05Cristina Serio is one of Mary Jane's recruiters who facilitated her journey to Yogyakarta
01:10in 2010.
01:11Serio's partner, Julius Lakanilaw, handed Mary Jane a suitcase lined with heroin, which
01:16she unwittingly carried to Indonesia.
01:19Serio and Lakanilaw were found guilty of illegal recruitment in a separate case and were sentenced
01:24to life imprisonment.
01:25Still, the Veloso family fears retribution from the international syndicate behind Serio
01:30and Lakanilaw.
01:33The House Good Government Committee cites Vice President Sara Duterte's Chief of Staff,
01:37Zulaika Lopez, in contempt.
01:39Lopez's detention was also ordered due to her undue interference in proceedings.
01:43This after Lopez sent a letter to the Commission on Audit blocking the release of the Confidential
01:48Fund's report to lawmakers.
01:50Lopez tried to appeal to the panel to lift the contempt order, saying the letter was
01:54a respectful request to COA.
01:56There was no intention, Your Honor, to demand from them or to order them or to commandeer
02:02them into something that they did not want to do.
02:06Lopez explained she approached the matter from the perspective that the audit observations
02:10were not yet final.
02:12The letter, which he signed, stated the subject subpoena should not be complied with, citing
02:16violation of the constitutional principle of separation of powers.
02:21The House panel ordered Lopez's detention in their facility until Monday, November 25,

02:31The United States on Wednesday, November 20, vetoed a UN Security Council resolution for
02:36a ceasefire in Israel's war in Gaza.
02:39The resolution called for an immediate, unconditional and permanent ceasefire and separately demanded
02:44the release of hostages.
02:46Part of the 15-member council, only the U.S. voted against, using its veto as a permanent
02:50council member.
02:52The resolution was put forward by 10 non-permanent members.
02:55The U.S. had said it would only support a resolution that explicitly calls for the immediate
02:59release of hostages as part of a ceasefire.
03:02U.S. officials accused council members of rejecting attempts at reaching a compromise.
03:07Israel's 13-month campaign in Gaza has killed nearly 44,000 people and displaced the population
03:13many times.
03:14It was a response to an October 7, 2023 attack by Hamas in Israel that killed 1,200 and captured
03:20250 hostages.
03:24Pope Francis is set to canonize Italian millennial Carlo Acutis in April 2025.
03:29On Wednesday, November 20, the pope said Acutis will be made saint during the weekend of April
03:3425 to 27.
03:36That weekend, the Vatican is celebrating a jubilee for adolescents as part of the Catholic
03:40Holy Year in Rome, which opens at the end of December.
03:44Dubbed as God's influencer, Acutis used to take care of his parish's website and a Vatican-based
03:49academy.
03:50He died of leukemia in 2006 at age 15.
03:54The pope also says he would canonize Pier Giorgio Frassati during the weekend of July
03:5928 to August 3.
04:00Frassati was a young Italian man who was known for helping those in need and died of polio
04:05in the 1920s.
04:09Former members of One Direction attended the funeral of their bandmate Liam Payne on Wednesday,
04:13November 20, just over a month after the singer died at age 31.
04:17Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan, and Louis Tomlinson joined Payne's family and
04:25friends for the private church service northwest of London.
04:29Payne's former partner, Cheryl Tweedy, with whom he had a son now aged seven, was seen
04:33leaving the service.
04:35The singer and songwriter was found dead after he fell from his hotel balcony in Buenos Aires,
04:40triggering an outpouring of grief from fans around the world.
