00:00Meanwhile, a lot of people are failing in Georgia trying to play sports bets, not realizing,
00:07I guess, that sports betting, Sam, is not legal in Georgia.
00:11Now, they can find their way to do this, I'm sure, which is probably a story for another
00:16day, but there's some data coming in that shows a lot of people want to bet on sports
00:19in Georgia and they just don't understand how.
00:22Yeah, data's coming in.
00:25It comes in every week, every Sunday, from this company called GeoComply, which essentially
00:30tracks all of the app logins people do in legal states and in non-legal states.
00:35And they saw that there was 42,000 login attempts into legal sports betting apps in Georgia
00:41this past Sunday, which was up 105% from the same weekend last year.
00:46Not much has changed since then.
00:47Sports betting is still legal.
00:49There was 7,800 accounts associated with Georgia residents that tried to log in, which was
00:55also more than double than last year, kind of demonstrating how the demand for sports
01:01betting in big non-legal states like Georgia is growing while legislatively there doesn't
01:07seem to be much progress being made.
01:10My colleague, Pat Evans, who does a tremendous job covering the sort of legal workings and
01:15political background that goes into all of this stuff, reported that the recent efforts
01:23have been pretty much tied up by these political issues in Georgia where you have to have everyone
01:29kind of on the same page, a bipartisan agreement, but Georgia is very divided politically.
01:34And there's even disagreements about how you would legalize it, what the law, how the law
01:39needs to be written.
01:40Some folks think you need a constitutional amendment.
01:43Others in the industry have argued you don't need one, which would make it easier to pass.
01:47But there was one proposed last year, which had bipartisan support, so you got over that
01:52hurdle.
01:53But then it kind of fell apart as people disagreed, you know, how we legally can make these changes.
01:59So Georgia is another one of these big states where you've seen the demand rise, but lawmakers
02:03kind of leaving this potential tax revenue on the table.
02:07And to your point, people are going to, you know, offshores to fantasy sports apps, which
02:12offer similar services.
02:13So we'll see if any of this data is presented next year.
02:16I'm sure it will be.
02:17That says, hey, the demand is growing.
02:19We'll see if that makes a big difference.
02:20It hasn't so far in Georgia, at least.
