00:00We're at Newcastle's Christmas Markets and we're in the brand new part of it, Newcastle's
00:03Christmas Village which is taking over Old Elm Square from today until the 22nd of December
00:08and it's got a host of family activities added to the stalls around the monument.
00:12You might be able to hear a carousel in the background so we have a glorious carousel
00:16I think it's from the 1890s so it's a real vintage one.
00:19We have Santa Stories which is over to my right which is a Santa storytelling experience
00:23with the elves and Mrs. Claus and then in the other corner we have something called
00:27the Elf Workshop where you can go to elf school and get your certificate and be certified
00:32as a naughty or nice child and we have the Rock and Reindeer Stage where people will
00:36find performances, Christmas screenings and all sorts of other pop-ups throughout the
00:40next six weeks.
00:43The Christmas experience is extended through Old Elm Square, Grey Street and Granger Street
00:47with stalls alongside the returning Alpine inspired bar.
00:50Due to popular demand, the area around the monument is filled with market stalls and
00:53is the host to the city's very own North Pole, a brand new attraction for 2024 with
00:58unique igloo pods raised above the stalls.
01:01I'm calling it the best view in the city but I think if you get up there and you have a
01:05look the view down Grey Street, around Granger Street, seeing everyone coming and going while
01:09being protected in your nice cosy dome, people bringing you food and drinks, it feels like
01:14it's going to be the Christmas party destination of choice hopefully this year.
01:18The sort of street food and the experience of coming in and trying something new and
01:21maybe something festive so we've got some food traders over here in Old Elm Square who
01:25a lot of people will recognise, people like Geordie Bangers, Acropolis, you know all the
01:29sort of favourites that people look for.
01:31So it's a project that anyone in Newcastle City Council work on together and we have
01:35done for the last few years.
01:37This year we've also worked with a company called Event Inspirations and they're behind
01:40a lot of the new items.
01:42So they came on board in April time and we're going to be working with them for a few years.
01:45So it's so important to the city that I think it's essential that Newcastle City Council
01:50prioritise it as they have been doing and we do the same.
01:53I think it's such a huge opportunity to have a bumper six week spell before Christmas for
01:58businesses here.
