00:00Filipinos are known for their culture of smallness, from shampoo and sachets to sodas or soft
00:06drinks in one-swig plastic bottles, almost everything that is commercially sold, especially
00:11food, comes in small portions or packages.
00:14Hence, when a traditionally savory dish like bite-sized dim sum or steamed dumpling is
00:19super-sized, without losing its savory taste, people take notice and buy, which I dwell
00:25on in this feature report on super-sized siomai.
00:30Today, we will explore an exciting twist on a traditional Chinese dumpling that has made
00:48its way to the heart of many Filipinos.
00:51What is that?
00:52Siomai.
00:53We are here now in the heart of Bulacan to see what the buzz is all about.
00:58So join me as we explore this delicious, larger-than-life treat.
01:04In Bulacan, a local siomai store has become the talk of the town, known for its delicious,
01:10flavorful offerings.
01:12Their unique twist?
01:14Giant-sized siomai that packs even more flavor in every bite.
01:18And now, let's take you through the quick process of making this giant siomai, making
01:23the filling, to steaming them to perfection.
01:41Creating the perfect siomai involves careful attention to detail, especially when it comes
01:46to ensuring each dumpling is the same size and filled consistently.
01:51First, the filling, usually a blend of ground pork, shrimp, and seasonings, is prepared
01:57and mixed thoroughly.
02:00The siomai is then placed in a steamer where it is steamed until the wrapper becomes soft
02:05and translucent, and the filling is fully cooked.
02:09After steaming for about 10 to 15 minutes, the siomai is ready to serve.
02:21We've shown you how giant siomai is made.
02:46From careful preparation to steaming, now it's time to taste!
02:50So as you can see, there's chili, fried garlic, and toyo mansi.
02:56So guys, thank you, thank you very much for joining me on this mouth-watering adventure,
03:02and we're asking you to stay hungry as we continue to feature more culinary trends.
03:10This has been William Theo for The National TV for a new and better Philippines.
