00:00About watching Detroit sports in the summer
00:02There's a big to-do about Bali in the in the blackout and people couldn't watch right yep, and things have been
00:09Shuffled it's no longer Bali the fan dual sports Network fan dual sports Detroit still diamond sports
00:15Yes, still diamond sports, but the you know the branding has changed
00:19You can still stream it for $20 a month
00:21But they have announced a new option for the Detroit sports fan for sports fans across the country rather than pay
00:28$20 a month they will give you the chance to buy games a la cart you can buy an
00:34Individual Pistons game if you only want to watch one random November hockey game you can buy one
00:41Random November hockey game the price is
00:45$7 a game
00:47I'd like to ask this audience does this appeal to you
00:52Who is this for
00:54248 five three nine ninety seven ninety seven we've been trying to figure it out all morning
00:59mostly at breaks trying to figure out why somebody would buy just one single game or
01:05You could buy up to two a month
01:07be if you buy three you might as well just pay for the month and
01:12There's a couple of reasons, maybe you would do this if
01:17You're a fan of an out-of-market team
01:20Mm-hmm and you just ate the Lakers are coming to town. I just simply want to watch that one
01:25I don't watch the rest of the Pistons game
01:27You'd buy that one if you're a person that thinks you're only going to watch
01:33maybe two a month
01:35you do this because you don't want to enter a
01:39Well, I'm gonna I'm gonna get the month of valleys and then I'm gonna cancel it at the end of the month
01:43Yeah, because there's a lot of people that just simply don't cancel
01:47Those subscriptions they're counting on you you're counting they're counting on you not canceling the subscription. It's one that's gonna be deducted. It's 20 bucks
01:54Maybe you won't notice it and it's just gonna go for six seven months before you realize that you're like
01:57Oh, I need to cancel it now. They've they've roped you in for that that amount of money
02:01I think the main reason that they have done. This is so that people do go through the exercise and say
02:08I'm gonna watch three games a month. Oh, I guess it is a good value
02:13They're trying to add value to the subscription that they already offer
02:17Versus this once a month twice a month deal
02:21You don't think people are actually gonna buy the once or twice a month deal
02:25No, I don't know why they would I don't
02:28Unless it's an out-of-market team. Okay, like you just simply want to watch and you're not gonna get the league pass
02:33You're not gonna do something more
02:36Expensive, but they're coming to your town. I'm not gonna buy tickets to go to the game
02:40So I'm gonna I'm gonna watch it for one night
02:43Look we have people who are listening that are diehard sports fans
02:46And they're gonna buy the entire month either via cable or via their their streaming option, right? That's not who this is for
02:54It's for people who may be listening driving in today that are casual sports fans. They pay attention
02:59They're in the loop, but they're not like
03:01diehard sports fans, but if I'm a casual sports fan
03:05Why am I gonna want one random regular season game?
03:09There's really no meaning to any individual regular season game. I could probably find one person who goes. Oh my wife's
03:16Islanders fan, so we'll buy the wings Islanders one game, but that's not a business model
03:22I don't know who this is for priced at seven dollars a game if it was a buck a game or two dollars a game
03:27That to me feels a little more like oh I could decide to buy five games in a month
03:31And that's a better deal than twice that if I'm not gonna watch it, you know, you know, I'm saying
03:36Yeah, but does it cost them ever anything to offer this? I guess it doesn't but
03:41Why is it bad business if they get somebody to make a bad business decision like it's good business for them
03:49Instead of okay, we're gonna offer our subscription, but if we if there are those out there
03:54That want something else want a different offering. Well, let's just offer it. It doesn't cost it
04:01I can't imagine the expense of rolling this out and and offering it on their website or on the app is
04:08Costing them anything. I guess I just again market research. I don't know why seven dollars to make a ten
04:13What does it hurt to offer 15 for a game?
04:15I mean it just this doesn't feel like it's appropriately priced and then you're just not I think seven is
04:22Low enough where somebody will be like I can pay seven bucks for a game. Okay, and and then if they're like, well
04:27I liked it. I'll do it one more time. And then they maybe they like that one and
04:32All of a sudden well, I'll just get the month subscription now
04:35Well, then I mean this genuinely like let me know if you're one of those people two four eight five three nine ninety seven ninety
04:41Seven I am
04:42Logic, I'm just I'm trying to figure out why somebody would do this. I'm they exist
04:47I don't know if we'll get one of those phone calls today
04:49I'm curious if this appeals to you the option to buy games a la carte at seven dollars a pop from
04:56Diamond Sports now branded as fan dual sports Network Detroit
05:00If it was two dollars, I do think you get some people that would bite I do
05:05I think seven dollars is is a market that doesn't exist in any sum total and any real number well
05:12Their business model hasn't been great. So hey, this is because they're there. They're there in you know bankruptcy repeatedly and
05:20They've changed their branding. They've they've changed their name
05:22They're trying to you know, put a new coat of paint on it and sell it as something new
05:27so I
05:29Mean, I I don't know. I don't know why anybody would do this
05:32Mike and Lavonia, does it make sense to you?
05:36No, it does not bud. How are you guys? Hey, what's up?
05:40Here's a deal with me man. Um, and John is spot-on this company's I think it's being run by a bunch of idiots
05:46If you ask me, so first of all, you know
05:48There was a lot of noise about the whole Comcast deal or Xfinity when they pulled the plug on that
05:54Nobody's talking about the fact that they were negative on their agreement with YouTube TV
05:59Which a lot of people nowadays don't use Xfinity anymore and we've switched over to YouTube TV and it's amazing
06:05And so I've tried their streaming option to try to like, you know
06:09Especially for the Red Wings the playoffs last year and I paid 20 bucks
06:13But it was so an inconvenient and the fact that you know, if there's a game on okay great
06:18Then I have to turn on switch apps log in blah blah blah
06:21But then if I want to switch around and go from channel a channel because everything else is on YouTube TV
06:27Then I have to log off the app go into something else and this whole option of $7 per game
06:33Again, I don't understand what you're trying to do if it was $3. Okay fair, but seven bucks
06:39So like basically three games, I might as well just get 20 bucks a month and just get the whole service
06:45But but again, I yeah, I don't feel like honestly not enough, you know
06:50Eyeballs are at least noise is being put towards the fact that they should probably come up with an agreement with a lot of these
06:57Streamers out there certain streaming services out there like YouTube TV to generate more money
07:03So maybe maybe get out of bankruptcy, you know, it just built it kind of baffles me
07:08I would they've sat for three years and
07:12We're not gonna go ahead and make a deal with them and it took him forever to make that deal with big city and a
07:17Bunch of backlash. So I don't I don't understand it
07:20So Mike, I don't I don't know the dollars involved in those deals
07:23But from your standpoint and I thought the same thing being on more platforms
07:27Whether it's YouTube TV or they used to be on Hulu TV being on more platforms having more eyeballs
07:32Feels like a good thing for your product now, it's got to make dollars and cents and I truthfully don't know what's behind those deals
07:39But they are trying to find ways to make money and this is their latest idea
