00:00We had revealed that Queanbeyan Hospital stopped providing surgical abortions all of a sudden
00:07after turning a woman away on the day of her procedure.
00:10At the time, doctors warned of an unspoken ban.
00:13Now we've obtained an email which proves that Queanbeyan Hospital has formally stopped providing
00:20surgical terminations.
00:22The New South Wales Health Minister has been out today in response to this story and he
00:27says that this is not a systemic issue, that this is an isolated case and that public hospitals
00:33will not be across the board, there will be no abortion ban.
00:38His Parliamentary Secretary, Michael Holland, spoke to us for this story.
00:42We published online on the ABC News website this morning and he blamed workforce shortages
00:48and resourcing.
00:50In other cases, last week we revealed there'd been a ban put in place on abortions for non-medical
00:55reasons in Orange and there was great concern from sources we spoke to that that may have
01:03been due to conscientious objection.
01:05Michael Holland assures us that that is not the case here at Queanbeyan.
