Owner Rodney Toll, 75, remembers the famous TV ads he appeared in
Transcript
00:00The reaction was excellent. People, I think not many garden centres actually advertised on TV back in that era.
00:07So we did very well from those ads on TV and we did sponsor the Don Burke program for quite a number of years.
00:17And that gave us a lot of, particularly the gardeners that were interested.
00:22Back then Canberra people probably were more interested in their gardens because part of the garden was a lawn
00:28and people were proud of their lawns but when we had that millennium drought people lost interest basically in lawns.
00:37It was too much to keep them up.
00:39And that really hasn't ever come back where we have lawns as part of the garden.
00:45And part of that reason obviously is the fact that gardens have got smaller.
00:49Lots of lands have got smaller.
00:51Houses have got bigger.
00:54So do you still get recognised?
00:57Occasionally we still get recognised, yeah. People still remember.
01:01Particularly the earlier days of people coming in.
01:04And there's still lots of people who come in that have been coming in since we opened basically.
01:10And we talked before about the next generation, the second generation of customers that have now grown up.
01:16They were kids at that stage. They've grown up and come into the garden centre.
01:21Can you say that famous line for us?
01:23I can say that famous line for us? In Petrus Pielago.
