00:00The Department of Science and Technology or DOST boosts the Alegre rice and corn dealer and rice

00:05mill in Zamboanga, Cebuguay that will enable local businesses to better meet the needs of

00:10their customers and help improve the region's economy. Philippine Information Agency Zamboanga,

00:16Cebuguay, Jocelyn Alvarez has the full report. In Zamboanga, Cebuguay, a local rice mill is

00:23set to level up its operations with nearly 3 million pesos boost from the Department of

00:28Science and Technology. This funding will not only enhance production capacity but also help

00:34meet the growing market demands. The financial assistance is part of the Small Enterprise

00:40Technology Upgrading Program or SETUP of the DOST. With this fund, the Alegre rice and corn

00:47dealer and rice mill will be able to purchase a modern 12-ton rice drying system that will increase

00:53their drying capacity from 90 to 120 bags per load. As a result, their productivity is expected

01:01to rise by 30 percent. The upgraded technology made possible through science, technology,

01:07and innovation will enable local businesses to improve productivity. With the mechanical dryer

01:13equipment, the firm can better meet the palay drying needs of their customers, not only during

01:19the dry season but also during the rainy season. This upgrade will not only increase production

01:25capacity but will also create new jobs in their local community, helping to boost the region's

01:31economy.

02:02Through its SETUP program, the DOST continues to empower local businesses, helping them enhance

02:09their technology, increase production capacity, and contribute to the economic growth of their

02:14communities. This is just one example of how innovation is fueling progress across the region.
