00:00In recent years, unfortunately, we have witnessed a terrible worsening of the conditions of global food insecurity.
00:12We are committed, especially in developing countries, to work in particular with institutions, with governments,
00:19to implement concrete projects that can better manage the resilience of local communities on these issues.
00:29The fundamental thing to do today is to commit more financial resources from the strongest countries to the most fragile countries
00:37to make sure that these projects, which are then focused on different strategic areas,
00:45can be seriously implemented in the territories.
00:49I am talking about water management, I am talking about climate crisis management,
00:53I am talking about transformation of breeding systems, I am talking about fundamental interventions to ensure, for example,
01:03that on some strategic nodes, such as deforestation, rather than sustainable fishing policies,
01:12they are really implemented in the service of local communities.
01:16It is not easy, but this is our fundamental task today.
01:21We are also working in the Gaza Strip, in very difficult conditions, like the ones we know,
01:28thanks also to the contribution of the Italian government through the Food for Gaza initiative.
01:34Just think about the fact that until a few months ago, 400,000 people, even in the Gaza Strip,
01:43lived substantially from domestic agriculture, from domestic farming.
01:49Our specific task is to try to support these realities with emergency activities,
01:56so that this subsistence agriculture, which has always given a hand to the food security of that territory, of those communities, is not completely destroyed.
02:09The situation is dramatic, we know it, we are also working with other agencies,
02:15the PAM first of all, we hope to be able to work more and better also from the next few days,
02:23but certainly the condition is really extremely complicated.
02:27From the next COP29 we expect a capacity to concretely implement the commitments also taken on the financial level
02:39for the transformation of agricultural and food systems so that they are more sustainable.
02:44The more we waste time, the more we risk destroying a part of our agricultural and food systems.
