00:00Good morning, my name is Phil Hewitt, Group Arts Editor at Six Newspapers. Really lovely
00:07this morning to speak to Daisy Howard, who is back in Littlehampton, where she grew up,
00:12but based in Thailand now, and back marking a really important moment because your debut
00:17single is coming out and it's called First Kiss. And it's an interesting story behind
00:23First Kiss.
00:25Slightly one. I like to say it's a song about the greatest first kiss that never happened
00:30again. It was just one very good first kiss that inspired a song and that's about it really.
00:40So I'm thankful.
00:41So the first kiss was fantastic in itself, but then you had a sort of, well, you had
00:45misgivings thereafter, I think.
00:48Yes, let's say my observations guided me away from kissing that person again, but that's
00:54okay. It's good to know these things and be aware.
00:57The point is, you had that great moment, and from that, you've got your debut single.
01:04Yes, I'm curious as to whether I should share it with that person or not.
01:10Well, let me know what happens if you do. But you've waited a long time for this first
01:17single, haven't you? You've been doing music for a long time, but it's accelerated since
01:22being in Thailand, isn't it?
01:24For sure. I think I've been doing music, as long as I can remember, since primary school
01:31and all through secondary school at the Little Hampton Academy, which was then LCS. And I
01:37think, you know, long story short, I was waiting for the moment to come to me. I was waiting
01:43for someone or something to give me the chance, give me the opportunity. And then it just
01:49hit me, turning 30 last year, that no one's going to come along and make it happen for
01:53you.
01:54It's down to you.
01:55If you want to achieve something in life, yeah, it's all down to you. Like, we are in
01:59charge. We need to create our own destiny, as cheesy as that sounds. So I just started
02:07to put the feelers out, investigate what was available for me, and everything just fell
02:12into place. It was like, oh my gosh, this is it. I could make it happen.
02:17And you've got all those tracks recorded. You've got the single. You're going to do
02:22an EP sometime before Christmas. And in the next year, it's the album. That's going to
02:28be massive, isn't it?
02:30Yeah. Yeah, I mean, for me, it's massive. And that's one thing I've been telling myself
02:36in this whole process, that this is important for me. And if it makes me happy, then that's
02:41all that really matters. And of course, it would be amazing if the world could hear it
02:45and I could do music professionally and share my songs. But I think ultimately, I just know
02:52I'm proud of this. I'm so proud of these songs. And I really hope that people like them as
02:59well.
03:00You should be proud. Absolutely, you should be proud. Have you got a title for the album
03:03yet?
03:08I'm kind of toying with the idea of calling it Saved, because the theme of the album is
03:15all sort of centered around one period of my life, sort of from 2020 to 2022. And all
03:21of the songs have this theme of, you know, wanting to save someone you love, and realizing
03:28that ultimately, you can't save anyone but yourself. So it's a real storytelling journey
03:34and it's, you know, the trials and tribulations of young love. But yeah, I'm still trying
03:41to figure out if that says punchier title. I don't know, really. It's quite a big thing
03:46to name your first album, isn't it?
03:49Let's chat again when you've got that new album ready to come out. Daisy, lovely to
03:54speak to you. Good luck with the single.
