00:12Igan, there was a sudden downpour in some parts of Manila because of the typhoon Nika, EJ Gomez has a live report.
00:16Many places are now ready for any flood that can be caused by the typhoon Nika.
00:21Just like here in Baseco, which is near the seawall and where many residents will be evacuated if there is a typhoon.
00:31The Pingka family has been living in Blk 1, Gasangan, Barangay 641 in Baseco, Manila for three decades.
00:37Whenever there is a typhoon, they are evacuated to the evacuation center.
00:41The road where their house and Sarisari store is located is always flooded up to Bewang.
00:48When the flood reached our cellong, we raised it so that it won't get wet.
00:53Our rice was washed away by the sea water.
00:57That's why we were lost.
00:59I was the one who evacuated there and my brother.
01:02My husband is the one who lives here.
01:04Because if we were caught, we won't be able to leave our hard work behind when we arrive.
01:09Last night, the rain was just quick.
01:12But until now, the water of Gutter Deep is still not receding.
01:15That's why Father Thelmo is wearing his boots.
01:20If the water doesn't recede, I'll be the only one here who has a canal that works.
01:25I'm wearing my boots so that I'll be careful of the water.
01:29It's hard if you don't take care of yourself.
01:33You know that this is an ocean lift.
01:36Baseco is ready for any emergency when there is a typhoon.
01:40Our emergency equipment and our rescue boat are ready for the typhoon that will signal Manila as number one.
01:47Our evacuation center is ready for the people who will be evacuated today.
01:51We are also ready to go around 24x7 in all of our areas.
02:03We are now here in the Baseco Port area.
02:06There is no rain but from where I'm standing,
02:09the level of water is already here on the seawall.
02:12According to the barangay, the water level here rises quickly when the rain is strong.
02:16According to the residents we talked to,
02:18the residents who live right in front of this seawall,
02:21when there is a typhoon, the water level here on the seawall is really high.
02:25That's why a part of this seawall is being elevated by the local government.
02:31That's the first news from Manila.
