00:00You're taking us to your operation.
00:14I ain't doing shit until I know my man's alright.
00:15You trying to make a deal, Oz?
00:23I could use your help with something.
00:24I want Oz to feel pain.
00:25Real pain.
00:26Episode 6 and 7 of The Penguin, but we'll talk about episode 6 first, kicks off where
00:39we time jump, get to kick back into things, see The Penguin doing well again.
00:45I wonder if that's going to stay for long.
00:47The arc, the everlasting arc, up and down, starts well and it's awful.
00:52We see him every damn episode.
00:55As we said previously, it's getting tiring, but it seems like it's the peak we've seen
01:01him so far.
01:02It's nice to see that.
01:03He's got his own wee loyal crew and they actually care for him in a weird way.
01:09You find out that they're surprisingly loyal in the next episode.
01:14You see him at his height, but I think the most striking part of this episode is Vic's
01:21first murder.
01:22Definitely.
01:23Do you think it was a wee bit too much, too fast?
01:28As soon as we don't really know how much time took place within the time jump, you don't
01:32know what he might have been doing between here and then.
01:34I feel like this is the next logical step for his character, if they want to bring him
01:39down this route of just becoming a criminal.
01:43This is when Walter White became Heisenberg, this is when Vic finally became Little Penguin.
01:50Did he fully end this criminal lifestyle?
01:54I thought they handled it really well, he wasn't just like, he had a lot of remorse
01:59even though this person was...
02:00He was still in character, but he had a reason to do it.
02:04He's still this young, naive, wannabe gangster, I mean he is a gangster now, but he apologised
02:12to a dead body, that was his aim, murder.
02:16He shows a lot of remorse when he kills this gangster, drug peddling guy, even though he's
02:22kind of an awful person, he knows he's an awful person.
02:24He was built up enough that it wasn't really a surprise that it ended up in this, it's
02:29kind of like a matter of time, because he was insistent on Vic fighting for him whenever
02:35Vic was probably in no position to do so, and Vic wouldn't want to because he's kind
02:40of shown him to be a bit of a scumbag type character.
02:44And also Vic, you can see that he is strongly loyal now to Oswald Cobblepot, you know, he's
02:53wanting murder from him at this point.
02:55Like he tries to buy him off, like it's clear murder is the last resort for him, but I think
03:00it's a logical next step for Vic, they murder him.
03:05Yep, another thing that was, I wouldn't say it's out of character but it's kind of a surprise
03:09is when the Penguin blackmails a politician and they restore power in the power districts,
03:16it kind of shows him being that noble gangster that he talks about at the start of the show.
03:21But it's always him playing the cards, he's doing that so that he has consistent power
03:25for his underground sort of lab, drug lab, so there's always two sides to the Penguin,
03:33he's never really doing anything for that reason, he's very conniving.
03:37I didn't really like it, it was stupid, see to me he did it for his majesty, like bringing
03:43back Keaton.
03:44That was part of it.
03:45But I never really liked it.
03:48That's another major plot line in this episode was just the severity of her declining out.
03:54She is playing a brilliant part, she's an Irish name, Google says she's American but
04:01her name's Deidre O'Connell.
04:03That's a very Irish, typical mick.
04:05That's a mick name, but she is phenomenal and this episode particularly, I have to say
04:12a bit of a look on that, but they kind of show more of her decline and you're kind of
04:19wondering where does this go, because she's not going to be a long lasting character,
04:24but she's played really well.
04:26I almost think the end is near for her, sort of near the end of the episode when the power
04:31does come on, she almost gets this new breath of life.
04:37The episode ends on a cliffhanger of Sophia Gigante, she interrupts a very heartwarming
04:45scene between Vic and Oz's mother, where they're dancing and reminiscing and just enjoying
04:51the moment.
04:52And it cuts to Sophia with a crowbar in her hand, just watching very honestly.
04:58Which we don't have to wait until next week to discuss, because we can't do both.
05:03It's episode 7, it kicks off with his mother being kidnapped, in fact he kind of goes missing
05:11this episode.
05:12Well, it starts off with a flashback, just immediately.
05:18I wrote down, you kind of see this Goodfellas-esque moment where Oz sees this gangster and it
05:27sort of clicks her, where that's what I'm going to do, kind of thing.
05:32Then we find out that he's responsible for his brother's dying, which is like, in every
05:37episode so far, anything I've ever brought up, he shuts down the conversation completely.
05:41He's like, don't talk about my brothers, don't talk about them.
05:45It's surprising, I thought this guy was just like a regular crook, but he's clearly just
05:50like a psychopath.
05:51He's always been a monster from a young age.
05:55Not to hate on the children actors, they did well, but they really pushed that accent
06:01with the way it was way too strong.
06:03I didn't like Oz junior, I thought he was kind of like a blank, he was too blank faced
06:12and not enough emotion showing at all.
06:14When I was watching I was thinking, imagine having your way and being casted as the child
06:18penguin.
06:19That's who you are.
06:20In the forest, gump brace.
06:24They have a really horrific death too, it's not like, you know, an accident.
06:28I think it's shown really well, it's just the cutting back, the other cries for help
06:33and then it cuts back one final time, the silence, it's very eerie.
06:38Then Sophia Gigante kidnaps the mother and then it kind of starts off this bargaining
06:45between the penguin and Sophia and Maroonie, which leads Maroonie to the gang hound again,
06:55now he's coming back down a peg.
06:57An attempted hostile takeover.
07:00Very quickly though, fails, very quickly.
07:04He dies in the confrontation with Penguin, just immediately.
07:08Gets to upper hand on him, has a heart attack.
07:11I thought it was really unsatisfying, I didn't like it.
07:14I think it just shows that this guy represents the old guard and they're not suited for this
07:21new wave of crime like that, I feel like that's what the show's trying to show.
07:25But aye, it's very snappy, it's just like, oh, that happened.
07:31What I did like too, I mean, I thought his death was unsatisfying, but I liked how the
07:35penguin knew he's kind of mad at him for having a heart attack.
07:38Aye, he's always looking to prove a point.
07:41Like he didn't get to beat him outright, he just died, just before Penguin could prove
07:47himself to him.
07:48He sort of resents that fact, he just needs the approval.
07:51This happens, I don't want to bring up the big bomb yet, I bring it up at last.
07:58What we didn't touch on in episode 6 actually is that at the end of the episode he brings
08:02all the gangs together, all the different ethnic gangs, so the Irish, the Chinese, they're
08:08all coming together, they drink a beer, share a beer, right off the back of Penguin's pick-up
08:13truck.
08:14Aye, and that doesn't show up in episode 7, so I'm assuming that they're all going to
08:20rally behind him now.
08:21Aye, definitely.
08:22Well he tells Fik earlier, before the hostile takeover, they go get me an army.
08:27So we're expecting like after the finale of this episode for it to all to just take place
08:34now in the, what is it, the Maroons' theatre?
08:40Towards the end of episode 7, a big bomb goes off killing the Penguins' gang pretty much
08:45out completely.
08:46Sophia plays the Penguin, very well.
08:48She uses, I mean it's this kind of only as we point to this point as his mother, and
08:53she plays it off as her bodies in the truck, like you are, a big bomb, white side is gang,
08:58white side is drug operation.
09:00But this is just another case of the Penguin self-persevering.
09:08He saves himself, he doesn't save anyone else, he just runs for cover, and he ends up hiding
09:12in the same spot that his brothers had killed him, which comes full circle.
09:17Saved in his brother's graves.
09:20But when the big bomb went off, the road fully comes down, at that point I was thinking,
09:28I didn't think it was going to happen in the show, but I think the Batman kind of has
09:31to come into it now, it'd be weird if he didn't.
09:35You see, is he busy doing something else?
09:36I feel like we'll learn when the movie is done.
09:39You think so?
09:40I just, I can't see him, I just can't see them having the power to pull Robert Pattinson
09:45from whatever he's doing, just from a strictly logistical thing, just, I don't think they
09:49can get him.
09:50They haven't been afraid, they recast him, they recasted Falcone, I mean, it just has
09:55to be a film underneath a mask, it doesn't need to be Robert Pattinson.
09:58I mean, if they showed a silhouette, I feel like, you're trying to promote this new Batman
10:03cinematic universe, and the very next thing you do after the movie is show a different
10:08guy in a suit.
10:09Makes no sense.
10:10Eat up a bowl.
10:11Eat up a bowl.
10:12He's really skinny.
10:13But I suppose that kind of just leans on the finale productions.
10:19Finale productions.
10:20Change the stage.
10:23Right.
10:24Oz's mother dies, Sophia loves.
10:27I think, I agree with you, I think she might go back to the asylum.
10:32Oz loves.
10:33But yeah.
10:34F*** dies.
10:35You think F*** dies?
10:36100%.
10:37F*** dies, no big shooter.
10:38Maybe it's my naivety, but I don't want F*** to die, and I swear, therefore, say he won't.
10:46I think Sophia, like, loves, but like, she like, escapes, and she's kind of like this
10:51crazy lady.
10:53She becomes the hangman.
10:54Sort of like a Joker-esque transformation.
10:59Turns into Harley Quinn.
11:00War Stanton.
11:01I either think she'll go to the asylum, or, because in the previous episode 7, she's kind
11:12of viewed herself in the wrong way, she's kind of turned into her father.
11:15I was going to say, it was a very emotional scene in the last episode there, where she
11:19realises that she's become everything that she hated.
11:22She kills her parent, like, her family, leaves her niece mentally and physically emotionally
11:30scarred.
11:31She's inflicted the same pain on their niece as the pain she was inflicted upon, so it's
11:36kind of her realising that, but then she still goes through with this plan, the exact revenge
11:42on the Penguin.
11:43I definitely think it's a turning point.
11:45I think all she wants now is revenge, I don't think she wants to be Kingpin, I think she
11:52wants to get revenge, then clear off.
11:55I don't think she'll hang about, I don't think she's going to want, but I either think she'll
12:00end up back in the asylum, or she'll just leave Gotham, maybe go to Sicily, like they
12:04kept bringing up.
12:05I feel like it does actually make sense in the universe, since she has a previous criminal
12:10record for her to be put back in the asylum, it makes sense in that way.
12:16One character that brought up to mind is the therapist character.
12:21He's such a nothing character, I struggled to write anything about him, he's just kind
12:25of there.
12:26I couldn't tell you his name, I don't know what his real point is in the show.
12:31They had, obviously, Oz's mother, and then they tried to use a bit of his therapy skills,
12:37they break some information out of her, but that doesn't even go anywhere.
12:41We don't learn anything, but it feels like it's implied that they know that Oz killed
12:46his brothers, and that his ma always knew.
12:49But that's literally unimplied, we know your secrets, something's very cryptic like that.
12:55But they give us the hunt, they reinforce that from the other point of view.
13:00But then it's like, what is the point to him?
13:03What is he there for?
13:04Maybe he brings her back to the asylum because he's in love with her, or some crap like that,
13:08I don't know.
13:09It just doesn't make any sense.
13:11It made sense in the asylum for her to have a sympathetic character, but no, it's just
13:17a pretty useless character.
13:20Nothing burger.
13:22So we both think that the gang's gonna come together and storm Sophia's apartment.
13:29I think it's gonna end up with a Sophia-Penguin face-off, and Oz's mother's gonna die.
13:38Yeah, I can see the mad eye, and I can't see it back there.
13:41I just think he was introduced today, I just feel like it's too perfect.
13:46I'll lamb this later.
13:47I just hope he doesn't, I don't want to go.
13:52He was a good kid.
13:53He was a good boy.
13:55I think, that's pretty much all I have, I think the Batman might come on to it.
13:59I think he has to.
14:00That's where you're gonna hear the heavy-duty boots, and the steam song, and then he's gonna,
14:06I don't know.
14:08No, I don't know, what was, was he Compassionate Gordon?
14:11Maybe.
14:12Was he Gordon?
14:13I don't know if I've ever heard him say that.
14:15Rock on, go rock on.
14:16Instead of out there, all the gang's having is like the main cop,
14:20Hey dawgs, how you guys?
14:21Fires my head every time he's on set, it's just, hey, hey Oz.
14:28Acting career based off that voice.
14:30Horrible.
14:31It sounds like he's in pain.
14:32Take a sip of water or something.
14:36But, I'm telling you, heavy boots, and then a theme song.
14:40Yeah, I would give you chills if that happened, but no, I don't think so.
14:44I'm smiling and thinking about it, but no, it's not gonna happen.
14:46No.
14:47But so far, the show's been pretty good.
14:50I do think it's, I think eight episodes is perfect.
14:54Anything more, it would have been more.
14:55I think because I watched those two episodes kind of like back to back,
14:59I kind of planned it and they won for me, and I feel like that just felt like,
15:02it felt like a better viewing experience.
15:04If you put those together, it's like a nine out of ten episode,
15:07I feel like, separately.
15:10Like we've brought up before, but it keeps falling, the trend of,
15:13oh, he's doing really well, back down we go.
15:15I feel like that happens in all shows, but it's so noticeable here,
15:17because they're trying to keep it tight, so they don't have time for enough filler.
15:22They distract you from the clear story writing.
15:26I mean, it would have won filler, though.
15:28No, I know, but I feel like in a regular show,
15:31where it goes on maybe 15 episodes per season,
15:35you can kind of have these throwaway episodes,
15:38where you don't realise how severe the jumps are between,
15:43oh, he's doing well, or he's doing really bad.
15:47Yeah, I mean, I'm still excited for, well, I say excited,
15:50I mean, I enjoy watching it.
15:52I want to see more from this universe in general.
15:54There's definitely a lot you can do with it.
15:56All right, finale, next week.
15:59That's the end, the end.
16:01No more reviews, no more reviews ever.
16:03Have to go back to reviewing Alien.
16:05Have to thank us all.
16:06Have to review Alien again.
16:08Have to find a new show, and have to watch Westworld.
16:10No, Westworld, season one's really good.
16:12I don't like it.
16:13No?
16:14Oh, it's perfect.
16:15I watched the first four episodes.
16:16No, you're not clicking.
16:17Boring.
16:18I really liked Westworld, season one.
16:19It gets a bit silly afterwards.
16:21I think I got silly straight away.
16:23I used to be raging watching it.
16:25I'd be like, I want to go.
16:26I want to go to Westworld.
16:28I want to shoot.
16:29No, but I like it, because it's such a theme park.
16:31It's so boring.
16:32It's like, come join our ride, and the thing breaks down,
16:36and like a fly lands on it.
16:38That's classic.
16:39No, at the end of it, it's always like, they swallow a fly,
16:42and it's like, oh my God.
16:44She's conscious.
16:45He can hurt a fly, or she can hurt a fly.
16:48Dolores.
16:51Go watch Westworld.
16:52The oldest bot.
16:55The oldest bot.
16:56Watch Westworld.
16:57Watch Penguin.
16:58Watch Sopranos.
17:00Watch Sopranos.
17:01Watch season one.
17:02True Detective.
17:03Nah, just stop there.
17:04Watch Taxi Driver, the movie, over and over again.
17:08Get a mohawk.
17:10Ma?
17:13I'm going to take care of you, Ma.
17:14You know that, right?
17:20I'd do anything for you.
17:22I'd do anything for you.
17:26And if you don't believe me, well, you don't got it.
17:30Because I'm going to prove it to you.
17:34Just don't give up on me.
17:38I know what I lost.
17:40What he took from me.
17:41Don't fucking touch her!
17:44I just want to know, was it worth it?
17:46Was it?
17:49Oswald Cobb.
17:51Man of the people.
