Vice President Kamala Harris publicly conceded the 2024 presidential election to Donald Trump on Wednesday by encouraging her supporters to continue "the fight for freedom." On Wednesday at her alma mater, Howard University, Harris thanked her husband, Doug Emhoff, as well as President Joe Biden and her campaign staffers, while the crowd chanted her name. During her speech, Harris called for a peaceful transition of power but said she's not relinquishing the fight that fueled her campaign.

01:11the fight, the fight for freedom, for opportunity,

01:21She went on to say, do not despair.
01:23This is not a time to throw up our hands.
01:25This is a time to roll up our sleeves.
01:27This is a time to organize, to mobilize,
01:29and to stay engaged for the sake of freedom and justice
01:32and the future that we all know we can build together.
01:35The election was awarded to Trump on Wednesday morning
01:37after Wisconsin was called in favor of the former president
01:40and current president-elect, earning him
01:42the 270 electoral votes necessary to regain
01:45control of the White House.
01:46Towards the end of her speech, Harris
01:48addressed the country's young people, saying,
01:50please know it is going to be OK.
01:52Don't ever give up.
01:54Don't ever.
01:54Stop trying to make the world a better place.
01:59You have power.
02:01You have power.
02:03And don't you ever listen when anyone tells you
02:08something is impossible because it has never been done before.
