Hochman sounds pretty interested in the case, but he says he's not going to make it some big political stunt like Gascón ... ripping the outgoing D.A. for sitting on the case until he was so far down in the polls he thought it might help him win reelection.

00:00Well, here's the deal.
00:03I've been a lawyer in the criminal justice world for 34 years.
00:07Unlike George Gascon, who had never personally prosecuted or defended a single criminal case,
00:12I've done 10 years of that as a prosecutor with 100 cases under my belt, and 24 years
00:17of it as a defense attorney with 200 cases under my belt.
00:22I know how to actually review a file.
00:25I've done it many times.
00:26I've argued on both sides of these type of motions.
00:30So I will expeditiously be able to go through all this information.
00:34Certainly it will have a high priority, as will other similarly situated cases have a
00:39high priority on my desk, but we're not going to delay for delay's sake.
00:43If I ask for additional time, it'll be the time I actually need to conduct this review
00:48and hopefully no additional time beyond that.
00:51Because one way or the other, the Menendez's, like every defendant, deserve a decision.
00:56They deserve a decision first by the DA's office, then ultimately the court has to make
01:01the decision.
01:02If it ends up getting to the parole board, the parole board has to make the decision.
01:06And as we know, the final decision will lay on the governor's desk if that all goes through
01:10in this process.
01:12But I won't delay for delay's sake.
01:14On my end, I will work as fast as I can.
