Port of Dover boss Doug Bannister reveals how hundreds of millions of pounds will be spent on the waterfront, including creation of a new commercial quarter
Transcript
00:00Well, each of the components, the western docks, the eastern docks, and the waterfront
00:04all have projects that are starting now.
00:07So in the western docks, the infilling of the Granville Dock and the tidal basin and
00:13the Wick Channel, that's a part of the foundation work for 2050.
00:17On the waterfront, we're looking at options for creating new office accommodation on to
00:23Bradley Wharf.
00:25And over in the east, we have an ambitious project, a large project called our Outbound
00:30Controls Project, which is opening up the first stages of the Port 2050 work in the
00:34east.
00:35So we're working through what all the detailed cost estimates might be.
00:39But safe to say, this is going to be hundreds and hundreds of millions of pounds to deliver
00:43it.
00:44But it's over the next 30 years.
00:45So, you know, what we are doing now is working through the prioritization of which moves
00:50do we make first.
00:52So what we are looking at now is how do we create a commercial quarter around the Bradley
00:57Wharf.
00:58It could include things like office accommodation, perhaps for some of our people, but other
01:02people as well.
01:03Maritime Innovation Hub has been talked about.
01:06Right now, we've got to determine what the funding is and what the requirements are for
01:11us to come up with the actual physical plans for what we might actually do on the site.
01:15But that's what we've gotten trained.
01:17One of the concepts, as we've identified in the Port 2050 work, is that we may indeed
01:21create along the ground floor around the Bradley Wharf, you know, commercial offerings, whether
01:27those are cafes or restaurants or whatever.
01:31And then on the upper floors, perhaps above that, is where we get the office accommodation
01:35in.
