00:00ACM is on the scene at the New South Wales chapter of the Democrats Abroad Movement on
00:04the morning of the 2024 US election.
00:07The movement has helped at least 10,000 Americans living in Australia vote in this year's presidential
00:12election.
00:13Hi, I'm Evie Elderquint.
00:15I live in Manly and I've been here for almost 23 years in Australia.
00:19What's going to define this election?
00:23I just think civility and decency.
00:27I voted for progress for democracy, really, but also, you know, as a woman, you know,
00:32my bodily autonomy is absolutely also at the top of my knowledge there.
00:37I hope that it will be Kamala Harris by a narrow margin, but I think it can happen.
00:43You know, I think we just saw the exit polling in and I think that that really encapsulates
00:47what we all thought it was going to be about.
00:48The number one issue, democracy, and the number two issue was the economy.
00:52And I think that on democracy, we have a very big difference between the two candidates
00:56for president.
00:57And I think that, you know, that's the number one issue in the exit polls.
01:01And I think that that's going to eventuate.
01:03I don't love everything Joe Biden's done.
01:05I don't love all Kamala Harris's talking points, but I do love that she's a decent human being
01:13and maybe could take America back to a nicer place in the world.
01:19I think Trump really did a disservice to America.
01:25I just feel like if you take away abortion rights, like they already have with Roe v.
01:32Wade, what else will they do?
01:34It's just a slippery slope for me.
01:36And women have fought far too long and too hard for their rights, for equality and for
01:42men to not tell us what to do with our bodies.
01:45This is just like to me, it's actually a very huge part of women's rights.
01:52I don't know that it will deny it, but I think the alternative is going to be far more
01:57divisive and par words.
01:59But I believe that her coming into office will allow the country to move forward.
02:05You know, a lot of change and progress still needs to happen, but I believe she is the
02:09vehicle to do so and to allow the people to do so.
02:13Whereas the reverse, I don't see that happening.
