00:00I mean as you know, Matka is based on, loosely based on this game, the gambling racket that
00:15happened back in the 70s and 60s, it was started by this person called Ratan Katri, where Bombay
00:22is the origin of this game Matka, which shook the entire Indian economy back in that time.
00:28So it's loosely based on that, so we took a certain part of it from what really happened
00:35and got inspired and weaved a fictional story around it, based from Baizag, and about this
00:43guy called Vasu, who starts off as a nobody, as a refugee, coming to India, and how he
00:50turns into the overlord and becomes the Matka King.
00:54So it's about his journey, which times from 20s to 50s, which is from the 60s to 80s.
01:05I think there were a lot of reasons, but one major reason was that there was no period
01:12drama in my filmography, which I had done.
01:13So when the director narrated the story to me, and told me that it's a period drama film
01:19and your role is like this, I think there was a lot of excitement, because as an actor
01:23you have to play different roles, you have to do something different in every film.
01:32So I think with this film, something different will definitely come.
01:35And my character Sujata, just like you see different phases of Vasu's life, Sujata's
01:41life is the same, when they meet and how their life comes together, and what are the different
01:45phases in their life, and the emotional turmoil that happens.
01:49So it's very interesting, it's very emotionally engaging.
01:52And the graph of both the characters, you'll see how it goes in the film.
01:56So it's a very interesting character.
02:03I mean his characterization is what excited me, more than his journey.
02:08See he's a guy who's hungry for power and money and everything.
02:12And he's a guy who's angry on the society because of where he comes from.
02:17He comes from a very, very low economic status.
02:22And he always believed that no one in this world is going to take care of you or your
02:26problems, and no one cares about your problems.
02:29You have to look after yourself, and he comes from a very oppressed background.
02:36So that zeal and that fire in him is something that I really liked.
02:40I feel like that is going to resonate with people tomorrow when they watch the film.
02:45And Vasu is a wacky guy, he's a mad guy, he'll go to any extent to get his work done.
02:52See, I cannot say I enjoyed something better than the other.
03:00But for me ultimately it was about the challenge, about playing this character.
03:05I think especially the older part of it, it comes in the last 30-40 minutes of the film.
03:12I think that is where it was more challenging than the previous ones.
03:17I think I enjoyed the old phase of Vasu more than the others.
03:24But I mean, I played all four of them, so I can't say anything.
03:28But this was more challenging than that.
03:35I think the story line of this character...
03:38That surprise she can't tell.
03:39Yes, I can't tell you that surprise, but I can tell you that there is a surprise element
03:44which takes the story in a different direction.
03:48And that is a very important part.
03:51And I think I can't reveal much, but it is a very important part.
03:56If you look at the beauty of our director, writer sir in his writing,
04:03it is that every character has a very important part.
04:06Every character has an importance which moves the story forward,
04:10which elevates the story or takes it on a new path.
04:13But it is taking the story somewhere.
04:15So whichever character you see in this film, or you see a different phase,
04:19whether it is my character, Vasu's character, Nora's character,
04:22there are many other characters,
04:23they all have an important step.
04:25So I think there is a lot, but I can't tell you.
