00:00All right, pizza view time.
00:22We're at Charlie's, right?
00:25Yeah.
00:26Charlie's Place.
00:27Is this your spot?
00:28Tonight I'm married.
00:29So let me ask you this.
00:30Sure.
00:31I see the sign.
00:32The original South Shore Bar Pie.
00:34That's correct.
00:35It's a big claim.
00:36Well, I'm going to tell you the story.
00:37That's what I wanted.
00:38And by the way.
00:39It looks great.
00:41This is actually the story.
00:42So my father, Nick Nicolau, partnered with Jimmy Jamoulis from the Cape Cod Cafe.
00:48Okay, yup.
00:49Back in the, when they got out of, it was in the 40s.
00:52They opened it up.
00:53Jimmy was always, Jimmy Jamoulis was outside, my father was the kitchen guy.
00:58Now in Brockton, there was one guy, Fedeftos was his name, a Greek guy, and these are all
01:05Greek people.
01:07So they, he kind of gave this basic recipe, which is, I can't give you the recipe, but
01:15you know it better than I do, federally, in the cheese.
01:19And what my father did is everybody tweaked it, is what I'm saying.
01:22So it's all the same pizza.
01:23It's like potato chips, but they're all different.
01:25So it's all a self-serve pizza, but everybody tweaked it differently, but this is how my
01:29father tweaked it.
01:31So this is why I call it the original, because it was actually, that's how he started it.
01:37And...
01:38All of the offshoots you're saying are from him?
01:40Correct.
01:41Correct.
01:42That's a huge claim.
01:43I don't...
01:44Well, I mean, that's a claim.
01:45A fact.
01:46Well, I guess it's a fact, because...
01:47Does anyone else bite you on it?
01:48Be like, no, no, no, it's us.
01:49Or do you guys have the undisputed...
01:54Social bar tavern...
01:56Well, let me say, undisputed for me.
01:58Fair enough.
02:00I've never seen anyone else claim it.
02:02I've been everywhere else.
02:03That's the first time I've seen someone say, we originated it.
02:06You see, again, we didn't originate it, meaning, you know, my father didn't come up with the
02:11pizza, but he got the recipe and he made this pizza out of the recipe, is what I'm saying.
02:17So did we...
02:18The original, in the sense that it was basically the first one in Brockton.
02:21They're all out of Brockton.
02:23And that was the first one in Brockton, which was the Cape Cod Cafe.
02:26I've had that one, yep.
02:27And that was my father.
02:29My father sold, like, in 69, my brother, Charlie, and him opened this up in 1973, 50 years ago.
02:38And we make these pizzas ever since.
02:40It's a great bar pie.
02:42This is a great bar pie.
02:44We've been doing a whole shoot-em today, and this is right top of the list.
02:48Beautiful, beautiful.
02:49I want it.
02:50You know, I don't follow a lot of things, but my nephew who's working here with me now,
03:00he's been dying to meet you.
03:01Is that the guy who somebody walked by?
03:03He's not here, right?
03:04He's not here.
03:05No, no.
03:06Yeah, someone said he's not here.
03:07You, you.
03:08You're like, he's going to be pissed.
03:09Oh, he's going to be beside himself.
03:12And of course, he wanted to make the pizza himself because he wanted to make the best
03:15pizza that he could.
03:16But, you know...
03:17Whoever made this made a good one.
03:20Yeah, this is very good.
03:21Excellent.
03:22So, there you go.
03:23There's Charlie's Place, The Unknown Story.
03:24Now, we're not saying the original, but the, what are we calling it?
03:28Well, I would say the, um, I'm sorry, the original from where it came from, but my father's
03:36version of the original pizza.
03:38How about that?
03:39Semantics.
03:40We'll accept it.
03:41It's very good.
03:42It was 7.9 on an excellent, excellent bar pie.
03:45Okay.
03:46What'd you give us?
03:477.9.
03:48Really?
03:49Okay.
03:50That's high.
03:51That's high.
03:52Yeah, I don't know.
03:54I have a tough scale.
03:55So, 7.9 is very good.
03:56Well, thank you.
03:57Yeah, yeah.
03:58And you're enjoying it.
03:59I'm still eating.
04:00That's a good thing.
04:01Yeah, no, it's great.
04:02Good.
04:03Bro, very nice to meet you.
04:04Well, nice to meet you.
04:05Congratulations on success.
04:06I'm glad we got here.
04:08Take care.
04:09Sorry I missed you.
04:10Who's he?
04:11Andrew.
04:12Your nephew?
04:13Yeah.
04:14Sorry I missed him.
04:15Tell him I said hello.
04:16By the way, what's number five that you guys hate so much?
04:17They're trying to…
04:18I saw it on the receipt.
04:19Yeah, in Massachusetts, they want to give everybody, all the waitresses minimum wage.
04:25Yeah.
04:26And none of the waitresses want that.
04:28None of the waitresses want that.
04:30They didn't decide.
04:31They're not behind it.
04:32There's another group that think they should make the minimum wage.
04:36And you do it because they get off on tips?
04:38Is that why?
04:39Yes, of course.
04:40Yeah.
04:41It will cut down on their tips.
04:42It will just change the dynamics of the business in that sense, I think.
04:46Yeah.
04:47All right.
04:48Okay, very good.
04:49Nice to meet you.
