00:00For the São Paulo Grand Prix, it's lights out and away we go.
00:05Lando Norris and George Russell, engine dead towards the first corner.
00:09And Russell's made a good start, and George Russell takes the lead of the race from Lando Norris.
00:14Esteban Ocon on the inside, has Yuki Tsunoda with company,
00:18as Liam Lawson tries to swing round the outside, and then gets pinched off,
00:21and Charles Leclerc gets past the RB, and that's going to give encouragement to Alonso,
00:26and Oskar Piastri right behind him.
00:28Piastri's getting bogged a little bit by the RB, but he's trying to make the move.
00:32Under braking, Fernando Alonso's going to try and steam down the inside.
00:36Fernando Alonso does steam down the inside, and go wheel-to-wheel with Oskar Piastri.
00:41This is brilliant racing. Alonso then gets squeezed by the RB.
00:44Piastri gets the place back again.
00:46Brilliant, clean racing. It looked like everyone made it through without any contact.
00:50Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton.
00:52Hamilton now looks around the outside of Gasly. Up 8th to 10th and 11th for those two.
00:57Valtteri Bottas had a dreadful start. He's dropped back a bit.
01:00Fernando, who's Lewis Hamilton, with Max Verstappen just behind him.
01:05There's a battle ensuing there, but out in front, George Russell leads Lando Norris,
01:09leads Yuki Tsunoda and Esteban Ocon, Charles Leclerc making up a place.
01:13Liam Lawson hanging on to 6th place.
01:15Then Piastri, Alonso, Gasly, Hamilton...
01:18Verstappen and that's Sergio Perez spinning round.
01:21And has he managed to get back on the track? Yes.
01:24Well done, Sergio Perez. That could have got stuck in the mud very, very easily.
01:37Here comes Verstappen. The door was open for Oskar Piastri.
01:40And Max Verstappen just walked straight through without invitation.
01:44He came from so far back.
01:48Time went stop.
01:50And at that point, is the rain only another inter or is it follow-out?
01:55That's a big decision for the teams.
01:57And they have got a lot of very qualified people to try and help them make it.
02:01Meanwhile, doing it for themselves, the drivers out on track.
02:04And Olly Behrmann has got past Lewis Hamilton.
02:06Carlos Sainz has got past Lewis Hamilton too.
02:09He's up at the 13th and Hamilton continues to struggle in that Mercedes car.
02:15We can see him behind Franco Colapinto.
02:17This towards Jun Cao.
02:19Oh, he locked up the outside front. He locked up the right front.
02:22He was on the white line and then just locked up the right front
02:25and slid wide and just opened the door there.
02:28Watch there. Yeah.
02:30And Sainz didn't need a second invitation.
02:33But then he again lost the place to Behrmann on the next straight, didn't he?
02:37And here comes Olly Behrmann down the retro-poster.
02:40Lewis Hamilton.
02:42Not giving him much space, but giving him enough.
02:44And Behrmann...
02:51He's just got to hang on.
02:52And I think McLaren, unless they really had to make that stop,
02:56made the wrong call with Lando Norris.
02:58Perez-Croft has made seven seconds on Behrmann in the first two sectors of the lap
03:03on the wet tyres with just...
03:05Oh, we see.
03:06That's Oscar Piastri and Liam Lawson.
03:08Oh, we see.
03:09That's Oscar Piastri and Liam Lawson.
03:11But remember I was saying, if you're on the right tyre, you will make seconds.
03:14Well, Perez has done that with the car in front.
03:17Look at Tsunoda. Let's keep an eye on Tsunoda.
03:19He's on his outlap at the moment.
03:21We'll see what his sector's come up with.
03:23Ten-second penalty for Oscar Piastri for causing that collision.
03:27Lots of drivers are saying this is just undriveable currently.
03:32I have to say, for most of us mere mortals, it totally would be.
03:37Esteban Ocon, for the second time in his career,
03:41third time in his career, is leading a Formula 1 Grand Prix.
03:45And on one of the previous two, he went on and won it.
03:48And he's got Max Verstappen, the man he's tangled with.
03:54Thank you, Ted.
03:55Yeah, just to pick up on what Ted's saying,
03:57totally agree from the radar it should clear off now for a little bit.
04:00We can't quite see...
04:01Oh! Sorry, Bernie.
04:02Now, that is Franco Colapinto.
04:04And this will be a red flag.
04:06I know we're behind the safety car, but this will be a red flag.
04:10And this will be a big game for Esteban Ocon, Max Verstappen,
04:15and Pierre Gasly, who haven't pitted in this race yet.
04:19And there's your red flag.
04:21And Franco Colapinto, who'd just been into the pits to change tyres,
04:26goes off at a spot where we saw Giancarlo Fisichella in the past.
04:31No, it was Fernando Alonso.
04:33Fernando Alonso and Mark Webber.
04:35Fernando Alonso as well?
04:36Yeah, Mark Webber.
04:37We've seen lots of...
04:39Well, no-one ever wishes for a red flag because the driver's gone off,
04:43but this could not have worked out better for Verstappen,
04:45and that couldn't have worked out worse for Franco Colapinto.
04:49And that's another big accident for the Williams team,
04:53who've got a lengthy check to write out for the crash damage this weekend.
04:58Wow, just look at the debris that's gone.
05:00That's all over the circuit.
05:02That'll have to get swept up during this red flag.
05:05Damage on the side there from the radiator.
05:08Cooling liquid's just spilling out onto the circuit as well.
05:16He'd be disappointed in that because he got very close behind Sainz,
05:19then ran wide off the line
05:22where people have been clearing away some of the water.
05:25And at that point in the rear of the car,
05:27there was no way he was going to get a stop.
05:29Before that big rain shower, I think Verstappen did a 23-something.
05:34You know, Ocon's best lap earlier.
05:36Oh, and there in the barriers is a Ferrari.
05:38Sainz.
05:39And it's Carlos Sainz who's gone off at rear,
05:42and we've got a safety car deployed here.
05:45Now, what does that do?
05:46Ocon and Verstappen have moved past the pit entry,
05:50as has Gasly.
05:53Oh, they touched the kerb.
05:55Touched the kerb.
05:56Oh, dear.
05:58But he was facing...
05:59So he's facing outwards from the barriers.
06:02He's obviously kept the engine going.
06:04I thought for all the world that he was out of the race there.
06:06Yeah, he tried to brake on the white line.
06:09I think that the front suspension will be too badly damaged
06:12for him to carry on driving.
06:13He has parked up.
06:14I can see it on our tracker.
06:16He's parked up by the side of the track.
06:20First, we have Russell attacking Gasly,
06:22then Leclerc down the inside of Norris,
06:24who just...
06:25I think he got slightly unsighted by George being in front of him.
06:29Leclerc is a big beneficiary there.
06:31He gained on Lando and George two cars in one move,
06:35and in the end, Lando rejoined behind his teammate.
06:43Oh, dear.
06:44Oh, dear.
06:45Oh, dear.
06:46Oh, dear.
06:47Oh, dear.
06:48Oh, dear.
06:49Oh, dear.
06:50Oh, dear.
06:52And the celebrations are already beginning to start
06:55on the pit wall and on the railings behind,
06:59beside the side of the track,
07:01because here comes Esteban Ocon.
07:03It's not one podium, it's two for Alpine in São Paulo,
07:08and it's something like $50 million
07:11that they will get extra
07:13to make it to sixth place in the Constructors' Championship.
