Michael Smerconish broke down what he previously meant by bringing in TV’s greatest hits to make his political point -- the voting population generally comes down to 2 sides -- and no matter which way you slice the data, this presidential race is still up in the air.

00:00The thing that really struck me was when you said this could end up being a Ted Lasso versus
00:09Yellowstone election.
00:11Do explain.
00:13I wish I could take credit for it as an original thought of mine.
00:16But what I was explaining is that there's data out there to suit any objective and any
00:21outcome of this election.
00:23And I'm knowledgeable in all of it.
00:25And yet when I'm asked, I say, I don't know how it ends.
00:30It could end with Kamala Harris eking out a victory, having a decisive victory.
00:35It could end with Trump doing likewise.
00:37We could all on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday still not know the outcome.
00:41As someone who watches both shows, what does that say for me?
00:47I think there are a lot of people who watch both of those shows.
00:50That means that you're independently minded and you have good taste because I love both
00:55of them in the same way.
00:57But for certain among us, the world has become such a black and white place, including where
01:03we go for our media.
01:05This fragmentation.
01:06Today, we go our separate ways.
01:07And you look at where these candidates have done interviews in the last three weeks.
01:11And I confess a number of the outlets I've never even heard of before.
01:16But that's how polarized we've become in all aspects, including our media choices.
01:21People have made a huge deal about this comedian who told a terrible racist joke at Madison
01:27Square Garden.
01:29And then you have Joe Biden, as you pointed out, not only referring to Trump supporters
01:34as garbage, but they dockered the official record on it.
01:38But which is even worse.
01:40In the end, what you talked about is none of it seems to really matter.
01:45I think it's all noise.
01:46And the reason that I think that it's all noise is because I look at the result of 2016,
01:512020 and what the data all says about today.
01:55And it seems as if nothing has changed, nothing at all, and that there are probably 3 percent
02:01of the electorate who are in play and nobody else.
02:05I said on radio today, guys, that I am of the opinion that if Joe Biden were still the
02:11it.
02:12OK, if Biden had never stepped aside, notwithstanding that horrific debate appearance, we would
02:19probably be in the exact same place.
