00:00I know the premise for you is that Flacco is better than Richardson and that Donnie
00:11I am totally, totally fine with, right?
00:14But I know that there have been times where we've talked about what is best for a football
00:19team's future, correct?
00:22And the Colts have only seen 10 starts for Richardson, he's left three games injured
00:27early.
00:28He's played seven complete NFL games in his career.
00:34A kid they drafted in the top five.
00:38I do not think it is fair to go, boom, Donnie, he'll never figure it out.
00:45If you look, Donnie, at Josh Allen's first season in Buffalo, he was terrible, right?
00:51I'm sure you remember the very beginning of Josh Allen's career in Buffalo.
00:54Ryan D'Abel saved his life.
00:56100%.
00:58And you and I both think the world of Shane Steichten.
01:01Now, I am sure Steichten has a hand in this.
01:04Maybe everybody is just furious that this kid tapped his head and said, I was tired,
01:09though that's a whole nother thing for another time.
01:12I really, Donnie, feel that this is one of the more insanely short-sighted moves a team's
01:16going to make because I don't think you can tell me in seven games, there's no way this
01:22kid figures it out when we're breaking down Sam Darnold and Geno Smith and all these other
01:27guys that have been a part of the circle.
01:29Why do the Indianapolis Colts need to cut bait 10 games into this kid's career?
01:36They say they're not giving up on him, which I don't know if that's going to be the case
01:39or not.
01:40But hear me out on this, too.
01:41And we didn't get a chance to fairly evaluate the guy in game time situations.
01:45When he was in the game, he can't complete passes.
01:47They think they can win the division.
01:49And to save the locker room, they think they can go to him.
01:51That's only half the story, Kevin.
01:53You know what we're probably not hearing about, though?
01:55Again, unbelievable where a quarterback, look, I was never the athlete, obviously Anthony
02:00Richardson was.
02:01But I always remember, the head coach would tell me, Donnie, if you are tired, get your
02:05helmet, we'll get you a sub.
02:06Because I didn't come out.
02:08We had two wide receiver sets, an X and a Y.
02:10I was the X and a Z.
02:14I was the Z, right?
02:15But when we would go into a three wide receiver formation, Kevin, I'd go into the slot.
02:19And I would run, we'd have 75 plays a game, Kevin, be 90 degrees, I'd run all 75 plays.
02:24Not because I was selfish, but I didn't want to come out of the game because I thought
02:27maybe the next play would be a pass play I wanted to get.
02:29So for Anthony Richardson, as the quarterback, to be like, I'm tired, get a backup in here,
02:34that's one thing.
02:35But also number two, I think they're being patient with him in the organization by not
02:38diming him out.
02:40Because when you talk about Josh Allen, it's a great contrast of, boy, this kid's ultra-athletic,
02:45I think we might have a team that might be able to win a couple games, this kid's really
02:47not putting it together yet.
02:49But let's just say Josh Allen got there at 6 a.m. every morning, first one in, last one
02:53to leave.
02:54You know what?
02:55He's going to break through.
02:56I don't know.
02:57I'm not there.
02:58But they would not pull the cord on this kid.
03:00I understand how Joe Flacco performs and he throws for 300 yards, I get it.
03:04But your thought is rational.
03:06There's just something I believe we're not hearing about where he might be just in chalk
03:09talk in the offensive room, be like, the kid just doesn't see the floor.
03:13Because there's one thing, Kevin, not completing passes or making the easy ones.
03:16But what coaches, they can deal with that and say, you know what, understandably, let's
03:20get you a little bit more confident in there.
03:22You're seeing things.
03:23You're just not completing it.
03:24But if they're getting into the meetings, like, that's a cover three or that's a man
03:27too high.
03:28What do you see here?
03:29And he's gone.
03:30Oh, I thought it was a zero blitz.
03:31Like, look, we can't have this.
03:32Like we're not even running an offense at this point.
03:35Listen, if they're almost doing a reverse, like, no, we're not giving up on him, but
03:38he's not ready to win now.
03:40And we're not because like, my thing is, and again, your tweet was like, cut bait, trade
03:44him, get rid of him.
03:45Like, I just think that that's bizarre, right?
03:48Like this team drafting quarterback next year, Donny, for me, I again, I think would be a
03:53massive misstep.
03:54There's one aspect of Richardson though.
03:55If I, if there was one way to defend him, Don, right, forever, right.
04:00Your whole football life.
04:01And you know, almost all of mine, we evaluate quarterbacks efficiency through completion
04:07percentage, right?
04:08We all know that, you know, you want to complete what 65% of your passes, right?
04:12Ballpark it yards per pass attempt though, tells it a little bit of the story.
04:18Anthony Richardson ranks 32nd in completion percentage, obviously, but he's 17th in yards
04:25per pass attempt.
04:26I don't know.
04:27Does he only throw the ball 50 yards down the field?
04:31Like that is one of the more interesting aspects, Donny, where he is a average quarterback in
04:38terms of what he does every time he passes it, except he doesn't complete half of his
04:43passes, which is unheard of.
