00:43needing to actually close the visitor
00:46center for a period of time to rectify
00:47it out-of-pocket Kent reacts to wage and
00:50tax rises it's madness for us you know
00:54we might end up having to make cuts
00:55herself and there might be job losses
00:57and we take to the streets for the spooky
01:00season in Raydon and I'll be here
01:02exploring a haunted house and trying not
01:05to get too scared
01:15well plenty of Halloween content coming
01:18later in the show but we start with this
01:20story repeated break-ins are causing
01:22revenue losses insurance premiums
01:24increasing and vital work being
01:26postponed for a seven oaks wildlife
01:28charity the visitor center at the
01:30reserve has been targeted once again
01:32this week this time with money being
01:34taken from the till earlier this year
01:36thieves left a Kent wildlife trust with
01:38a loss of 20,000 pounds in damage and
01:41stolen items Daisy page has been to
01:43find out what toll this is all having
01:45for the charity a Kent wildlife charity
01:49is playing for information following a
01:52break-in at their visitor center in
01:53their seven oaks wildlife reserve the
01:55thieves gained access by breaking a
01:57panel in the glass door causing 1,500
02:00pounds worth of damage targeting the
02:02till they also took a hundred pound cash
02:05yes so this is the door that was broken
02:08into that lower panel down there they
02:11kicked that through and then that's how
02:13they were able to access the visitor
02:14center and say all that was all captured
02:16on CCTV as well caught on camera is the
02:21suspects pulling into the car park
02:23before walking back to the building
02:24where the burglary took place leaving
02:26the reserve at a loss the main impact
02:29obviously as and when it happens is
02:32obviously the loss of income so I'm
02:34needing to actually close the visitor
02:36center for a period of time to rectify
02:38it but then it's the it's the long-term
02:40impacts that we have in terms of
02:42insurance you know premiums going up
02:44obviously having to make the claims for
02:46those and the impacts how much work we
02:49can do around our reserves obviously
02:50when we've had equipment stolen in the
02:52past it just means that then we'll have
02:54to delay very important vital works
02:57around our reserves Kent Wildlife Trust
02:59have said they have increased their
03:01security to protect their reserve Kent
03:03police have said their officers are
03:04investigating a burglary at the nature
03:06reserve in Sevenoaks it is reported the
03:08visitor center in Brownbourne Vale Road
03:10was broken into between 6 p.m. on
03:12Tuesday 22nd of October and 9 a.m. on
03:15Wednesday the 23rd of October 2024 this
03:19is not an isolated incident at the
03:21Sevenoaks nature reserve earlier this
03:23year the container behind me was broken
03:24into and wildlife cameras and power
03:26tools were taken cutting a hole in the
03:29side of the container the thieves caused
03:3120,000 pounds worth of damage with the
03:34center reopened and the doors repaired
03:36visitors can come to enjoy the green
03:38spaces the reserve provides Daisy page
03:42for KMTV in Sevenoaks Medway food bank
03:47says they may have to lay off staff
03:49following sweeping fiscal changes
03:51announced by the government this week
03:52yesterday billions of tax rises were
03:54announced impacting employers alongside
03:57increasing the minimum wage they there
04:00are some snippets from the labor's first
04:02budget in more than 14 years but as all
04:04of the leader to sacks has been finding
04:06out not everyone is happy with these
04:08announcements this budget raises taxes
04:11by 40 billion pounds businesses reeling
04:14voters divided the voluntary sector
04:17exasperated but does labor's first
04:20budget in more than a decade actually
04:23mean more cash for Kent well for the
04:27working man and those in need the budget
04:30might bring welcome relief minimum wage
04:33has skyrocketed meaning you could be
04:36earning more than a grand extra a year
04:39but not everyone on Rochester High
04:42Street thinks this will pay off I think
04:45that's good for people on minimum wage
04:47but it's not good for small businesses
04:49because they've obviously got to pay that
04:52minimum wage and probably less people
04:54will get employed I'm happy that it's
04:55gone up it's the cost of living rises it
04:59needs to and especially for the younger
05:01people trying to get into the play
05:04finding places to live the apprentices
05:0616 to 18 year olds good for them for
05:10people over that limit I think it's just
05:13going to have a knock-on effect on small
05:16coffee shop businesses because they've
05:19got to pass that cost on the burden for
05:22these cost-of-living measures is on
05:24employers with national insurance
05:27contributions for businesses rising to
05:3015% combined with the new minimum wage
05:35there are worries smaller businesses
05:37will fill the brunt we're looking you
05:41know 140 to 160 pounds a week extra
05:45cost without actually any other way of
05:49the only way we can actually find that
05:52money is to absorb it from our margin
05:54from our own wages from being self
05:58employed and such like so yeah it's a
06:00bit of a bummer to clearly what's going
06:02to happen is all small business will
06:03just have to tighten their belts lay off
06:06staff reduce margin reduce expectations
06:10or what we will have to do next year is
06:12not take a holiday so that be it and
06:13even charities and food banks here in
06:16Chatham are fearing for the worst as an
06:20employer it's not it's not good we're
06:22getting hit twice so we've now got to
06:23pay more national insurance
06:25contributions and the minimum wage has
06:27gone up so we struggle we're struggling
06:29as it is so for us to add that
06:31additional cost is just is madness for
06:33us you know we might end up having to
06:35make cuts herself and it might be job
06:36losses Aaron the government say they
06:38have to make difficult decisions to
06:41balance the books and while this
06:43budget will be welcomed by those
06:45struggling to make ends meet it's clear
06:48not everyone here in Kent is a fan of
06:52the tax man Oliver leader the sacks for
06:55KNTV in Rochester special educational
07:03needs school in Maidstone has been left
07:04to pay tens of thousands of pounds to
07:06fix water supply issues over the last
07:10three years five acre woods has had to
07:12tell its 800 pupils were complex
07:14learning difficulties to stay at home
07:16nine times the lack of water has been
07:20blamed on burst water mains and issues
07:22with pumps but despite telling South
07:24East Water of the problems five acre
07:26would have started to look into their
07:28own solution one option is to install
07:30tanks of water on the roof which would
07:32cost around ten thousand pounds but we
07:35spoke to the principal and head teacher
07:36of one of the schools earlier you get up
07:40in the morning you put your uniform on
07:42and then suddenly you're told that
07:44there's no school it's it's going to be
07:46very upsetting for you because obviously
07:48our staff don't arrive on site even
07:50outside team until just before eight
07:52o'clock and then it's pushing all the
07:53buttons to cancel transport to contact
07:55parents to let local authority know and
07:58the really difficult thing is that some
08:00pupils may already be in transit to the
08:02school we really want a commitment from
08:05South East Water to ensure that the
08:07reliability and the resilience of our
08:09water supply is 100%
08:14well South East Water say they're sorry
08:17for the problems which have been caused

08:45let's take a quick sneak peek at this
08:47new exciting show
08:52hi I'm Gabby Rolls I'm a comedian I got
08:56into stand-up comedy because I've been a
08:57huge stand-up comedy fan since about the
09:00age of 14 I've always enjoyed watching
09:02comedy but when I joined this university
09:04there was a stand-up society so I joined
09:07thinking oh great some like-minded
09:09people never with the intention of
09:11actually performing I was thinking nah
09:13no way and they had a Christmas kind of
09:15gig and they were saying oh go on think
09:17about it over the Christmas holidays
09:19because it was in January and I did it
09:21in January 31st as a New Year's
09:23resolution never looked back I love
09:26being a stand-up comedian because I just
09:28think I mean who wouldn't it's attention
09:30right but also I love seeing how people
09:33respond and how they relate like
09:35particularly with my style of comedy I
09:37have other disabled people coming up to
09:39me after the show and saying like oh
09:41that really resonated with me or I've
09:43had something like that happen to me as
09:44well which means the world in terms of
09:47comedians that I model myself over I
09:49would say partly Rosie Jones she's just
09:52awesome she's got terrible fuzzy like
09:54myself but I also really like the style
09:56and the energy of Russell Howard so
09:58kind of a love child between the two hi
10:00my name is Brooke Betty so I always
10:02wanted to do stand-up comedy I think when
10:05I was a bit younger when I was
10:07struggling with my mood or when I was
10:08just having a bad day stand-up was
10:09always the thing that cheered me up
10:10watching things like live at the Apollo
10:12and my favorite comics like Netflix
10:14specials and stuff like that and it just
10:17always seemed to cheer me up so I
10:18thought once I got to university and I
10:20have the opportunity maybe I could try
10:23it for myself ah it is the most amazing
10:25feeling I think the five minutes of
10:28material that you see when someone
10:29performs that's only 5% of what the
10:32comic does it can be really stressful
10:34writing the material thinking is this
10:36good enough this is going to make people
10:38laugh getting to the gig sometimes the
10:40commute can be really stressful so once
10:42you're on the stage and someone laughs at
10:44those jokes that you've worked really
10:45hard at it's the biggest sense of relief
10:47and like I said I just want to make
10:49people happy and have a good night so
10:51when I hear people laugh I think
10:52brilliant I've done what I've come here to do
10:54ah I massively look up to comedians like
10:58May Martin and Sarah Keyworth I think
11:01their craft is incredible I think they
11:03do a really good job they've got
11:04amazing audience interaction I love
11:06their style of comedy and but most of
11:08all they are out and proud non-binary
11:10comics and I feel like it's about time
11:12the stand-up industry had more trans
11:14and non-binary artists so I'm really
11:17hoping to be like them one day and I
11:19really look up to them

15:16live to a spooky Medway Halloween house
15:18shortly taking a look at weather and
15:20catching up with Chris Deasy from the
15:22Kent Film Club but first don't forget

15:32about how Kent police are using football
15:35to keep Sheppey's children from engaging
15:37in antisocial behavior wake up go to
15:40school and then well in Sheppey young
15:42people don't really know teenagers often
15:45don't have anything to do after school
15:47with many hanging around the local
15:49McDonald's for cheap food and free Wi-Fi
15:51well when residents complained about
15:53local teenagers not having anything to
15:55do I think the last thing they expected
15:57was for the local constable to set up a
15:59five-a-side arena in the park with
16:01standard activities like cadets and
16:03sports clubs costing money PC Hughes
16:05wanted to give the community something
16:07they could do for free it's quite a
16:08impoverished area so people said it cost
16:12money to do those things and not
16:13everyone can afford that so we got in
16:16contact with Sports Connect who just
16:19basically organize free sports sessions
16:22in the community I said how much it
16:24would be to fund them to come in and do
16:26a program in Sheerness and then through
16:29the Home Office budget we've got to
16:31tackle kind of hotspots for antisocial
16:33behavior we've managed to secure some
16:35funding for a 12-week program in
16:38Sheerness which is what's running at the
16:39moment the intention was also to target
16:41young people they knew were engaging in
16:43antisocial behavior and low-level
16:45criminal offenses delivering letters to
16:47parents and inviting the teenagers to
16:49the sessions the activity was originally
16:52going to run until the end of October
16:53but Sports Connect extended them until
16:55at least Christmas and have begun plans
16:57to set up a similar scheme in Minster
16:59after reports of antisocial behavior in
17:01the area over a hundred young people so
17:05far have taken part across the time the
17:06sessions have run with no pre-booking
17:08required and any age allowed to turn up
17:10and play the constables received five
17:13thousand pounds from the hotspot
17:14policing problem-solving budget to
17:16address the issue teaming up with Sports
17:18Connect an organization that provides
17:20sports as a way to bring communities
17:21together and create opportunities for
17:23those in Kent so we've had various age
17:26groups come down we've had as young as
17:28six we've had some of the older children
17:31come down as well it's been a real mixed
17:34age and ability and have all really
17:37gelled together as they've taken part in
17:39the project over each week we've seen a
17:41group that's consistently come down
17:43they've engaged really well with us at
17:46Sports Connect we've really got to know
17:48a bit more about them as well and
17:50opportunities that we can provide
17:51further beyond these sessions so it's
17:53really exciting to grow that rapport
17:55with the young people over here the
17:57organizers have seen some young people
17:59see the event take part and become
18:01regulars who attend after school on a
18:03Wednesday and will talk to the officers
18:04which they say helps the community feel
18:07of the scheme with the event being free
18:09and on every week they say it can
18:11provide consistency to young people who
18:13lack structure in their day-to-day and
18:14has changed the behavior of some for the
18:16better

18:29well it's going to be cold and cloudy
18:37for Halloween night right across Kent
18:39so make sure to wrap up warm highs of 12
18:41lows of 12 tomorrow morning similar
18:45temperatures staying cloudy across the
18:46county highs of 13 as the day goes on it
18:49will be a little bit warmer highs of 14
18:51seen in many places still very little
18:53sun to be seen and here is your outlook
18:56for the week with Saturday looking nice
18:58and warm at 15 degrees Sunday and Monday
19:00both coming in with 13 at the highest but
19:02a little bit of sun peeking through the
19:04clouds on Monday
19:15well next is what we've been waiting for all
19:17evening well everyone puts up Christmas
19:19lights some might put Easter eggs in
19:21their front garden but Kent homeowners
19:23take Halloween to a new level entirely
19:26turning their houses from homely to
19:28haunted every year Kieran from Raynham
19:31would pull out all the spooky stops to
19:33make his house that much scarier but
19:36with him moving home soon this will be
19:38the last year where he can terrify
19:39passers-by well I've been down there for
19:42the past couple of years but Finn
19:43McDermid is there this evening for us
19:45Finn what is different this year what's
19:48changed from the previous years
19:51well one thing I can tell you that's
19:52totally different it's just the people
19:54there's an absolute crowd of them and I
19:57don't blame them you can see behind me
19:59some of the decorations that they've
20:01done for this year it's bigger and it's
20:03better than ever before as you can see
20:06we've got someone who's are being a bit
20:08sick and we've got all sorts of hand
20:10painted zombies even a gigantic spider
20:13but all of this is actually going to be
20:15donated out to the community because
20:17this is the very last year they're going
20:19to be doing this at this location
20:21because Kieran's moving he's heading
20:23just down the road and up church but he
20:24wants to make sure that the entire
20:26community feel is still very very much
20:29alive and well I'm quite nervous but
20:32we're going to go through the maze in a
20:33second if you just follow me around here
20:35we'll head through just under this
20:37gigantic spider that's huge right oh
20:41gosh I've just tripped over some of the
20:44spider let's it's I'm a bit too tall for
20:47this I think let's head through hello
20:48sir very scary right coming on through
20:51now it is a bit dark I do have to warn
20:53you there might be some jump scares
20:55involved and I'm not very good with
20:57horror so let's go through I'm quite
21:01lucky I've got the light though otherwise
21:02I'd be doing this without the aid of
21:04something visual to help me out oh gosh
21:07and I just got to catch my breath I
21:12don't know if that scared you at home
21:13just as I think so just just I think I'm
21:18all right it scared me just hopefully
21:21I'm not the only one out there who's
21:22who's scared like a right fool yes okay
21:26good I'm not alone then Gabriel but I
21:27mean look at this isn't this mental I
21:29mean yeah I'm pretty particularly bad
21:32with horror so I've never had to do this
21:35sort of thing but you've got it you got
21:36to appreciate the effort at some level
21:37that's been put in I mean look at this
21:38all of this it's we've got UV stuff I
21:41mean it's pretty crazy and you've got
21:44to really appreciate the effort that's
21:45been put into there Finn are you lost
21:47there he's been doing this for am I
21:49lost just about well I think I found the
21:52exit but I think someone's waiting for
21:53me so um let's I don't want to turn my
21:55back to them let's just sort of okay
21:59that's I've been caught but it's very
22:02scary on something yes it is trapped
22:05you're trapped in the haunted something
22:07so we're gonna we're gonna do the
22:09interview here this is Kieran how are
22:13you doing Kieran yeah great yeah yeah
22:17it's a it's absolutely manic there's
22:18tons of people and how long have you
22:20been doing this it's like 10 years ago
22:21with my oldest son as a summer activity to
22:24build props and then it's grown from
22:26there and then like the last couple
22:27years it's sponsored by my youtube
22:29channel so that's what's helping pay for
22:30all of this brilliant and this is this
22:32is the last time you're doing it here
22:33what's the plan for the future oh I've
22:35already donated all the props you see
22:36here to houses in the area so the big
22:39spider if it will stay in the local area
22:41and when we move just down the road I'll
22:43start fresh I'll start all over again
22:45and do you think there's anybody that
22:46celebrates Halloween quite as hard as
22:48you there is a couple of houses now the
22:50last two years have gone bigger than me
22:53so yeah so you're a bit of a trendsetter
22:58yeah well it is amazing there's a proper
23:00crowd that's turned out is it always
23:02this popular every year every year it
23:04gets this busy so yeah it's a hit and
23:07miss when you get here where it's quiet
23:08or busy brilliant well thank you so

23:49tonight exactly well if that wasn't
23:51spooky enough I mean what are some
23:53spooky classics for people to maybe
23:54stand at home this evening or coming
23:56back from trick-or-treating want to
23:57carry on the spooktacular fun
24:00what could they be watching this evening
24:01well I know what I'll be watching
24:02tonight I'll be watching Heretic with
24:04Hugh Grant playing completely against
24:06type so I'm sure next week I'll have
24:08plenty to say on that but but lots of
24:10big-screen classics which have returned
24:13to the big screen including Carrie which
24:15has not lost its capacity to chill
24:17after all these years it came out in
24:191976 Brian De Palma's classic from the
24:22Stephen King first novel actually and
24:24and also Nightmare on Elm Street was
24:26showing last weekend but plenty going on
24:28including in Herne Bay tonight they're
24:29showing Young Frankenstein but if you
24:31want a slightly lighter actually with
24:32and the death this week of Terry Garr
24:34who appears in that film at the age of
24:3679 then you know there's plenty out at
24:39the moment foot for all tastes what's
24:42your worst Halloween film Chris well I
24:44saw Terrifier 3 the other week and let's
24:47put it this way I I mean I'm used to
24:49seeing films out of sequence I saw the
24:51back to the future films completely you
24:52know the third one first but after
24:55watching Terrifier 3 I have no interest
24:57in watching one and two I kind of feel
24:58that that has scarred me for life and
25:00that was literally just two weeks ago
25:01what about the scariest movie then I
25:04thought I would say Rosemary's Baby and
25:07the Exorcist were both films that when I
25:10saw them you know I felt that a bit of
25:12the film had invaded my life in a way
25:15because in watching this film there's a
25:16sense that it's the underlying the
25:17psychological horror not just the jump
25:20scares about Polanski to do such a good
25:21job in Rosemary's Baby of actually
25:24chilling us through psychological
25:26suspense and that's the sort of film
25:28you come away with that eerie sense of
25:29people are not what they seem so it's
25:30that real-world grounded horror rather
25:33than the satanic supernatural foe Chris
25:36and I just have to tell you this I get I
25:39can hear people in my earpiece from the
25:40gallery that's where they push all the
25:41buttons my editors telling me she's
25:44scared of Harry Potter it's not that
25:46scary is it well you know when the books
25:48came out there was certainly a call in
25:50some cases this is black magic so it
25:52should be banned so you know some people
25:54the definition of a scary movie because
25:57you also have that franchise the scary
25:59movie spoof films in the early 2000s
26:00what will differ but I've noticed a lot
26:04of horror films which I mean even Joker
26:06which is out Joker 2 at the moment you
26:08know they don't always have 18 rated
26:09things the most scary film much I would
26:12say seance on a wet afternoon because it
26:14is so eerie and it's and it's you rated
26:16and it came out in the 1960s and it
26:18deals with turbulence and it deals with
26:20you know something sort of you know
26:21trauma in somebody's life including that
26:23case a lost baby and I so I think that
26:25there are cross-genre at ways of dealing
26:28with horror paranormal activity
26:29Coraline the more animated versions got
26:31ten seconds Halloween dressing up this
26:33evening to the cinema trick-or-treating
26:34well I should have worn black tonight
26:36quite frankly but but I will be making
26:38well I go to the cinema most nights but
26:41I've seen a lot of scary movies lately
26:42so you're not dressing up well this
