00:00Residents in the coastal area of Santa Ana, Cagayan, are watching closely for the Super Typhoon Leon.
00:06Others evacuated early due to the growing storm surge.
00:10Benji Durango of PTV for Balitang Pambansa Live.
00:14Benji.
00:16The Super Typhoon Leon is the strongest typhoon in Santa Ana, Cagayan this year.
00:22That's why the LGU is working hard to protect the residents, especially those who live in the coastal areas.
00:32The Super Typhoon Leon hit Santa Ana, Cagayan in the afternoon.
00:35The strong winds and rains have built up the town, especially in the coastal areas.
00:39So this is the situation of the coastal areas of Barangay Palawik.
00:45The sea waves are very strong, as you can see.
00:48The strong rains and strong winds are hitting the town at the same time.
00:54It hurts the skin.
00:55On my right, these are the residents of the coastal areas.
01:00They all went to the evacuation center.
01:04The problem is that the river there is the river of the Palawik River.
01:11Now, its water level is above normal.
01:16So there is a possibility that the river will overflow and flood the area of their barangay.
01:24Of the 16 barangays of Santa Ana, 12 are in the coastal areas.
01:28Because of the growing storm surge, many people evacuated early.
01:32Including the news team of PTV.
01:34The Gabor family brought us here.
01:37This is our evacuation.
01:40But actually, we can't go out.
01:42It's hard to go out because it's unsafe.
01:46So when they saw us, they told us to go inside.
01:49This is their family.
01:51Thank you very much.
01:54Even though it's made of stone and steel, the water still flows from the roof because of the strong winds.
01:59It's dripping. What happened?
02:01Maybe, sir, because of the iron and the walling.
02:06That's where the water goes in.
02:09But this is the safest place for them to cover and report.
02:13This is safe because when we did this, I put steel and cables.
02:19But they still can't avoid the fear of the strongest storm they experienced this year.
02:24How are you? How do you feel about the wind?
02:26It's scary.
02:28We were lucky to be able to hide in a strong house even though it's in the outskirts of Santa Ana.
02:32But the residents in the weak house headed to the evacuation centers.
02:37The evacuees in the barangays are almost full just like in Palawig.
02:40The barangay center in Santa Ana was not safe from the storm surge.
02:44The water from the sea entered the community to save the residents.
02:48In Aparey, Cagayan, a fisherman's wharf was swept away by the sea.
02:51It couldn't withstand the strong waves so it fell into the sea.
02:55In Gonzaga, Cagayan, pre-emptive evacuations were conducted in some barangays there.
02:59The rescuers helped to bring them to the evacuation centers.
03:03Among them are the evacuees of Santa Ana.
03:05There was no electricity and internet supply in the operation center of Santa Ana.
03:09But they still maintained the situation for more than 24 hours.
03:13Just yesterday, the LGU prepared relief goods for those affected by the flood.
03:18The augmentation supply from the DSWD Region 2 for the family food box has also arrived.
03:23The children were buried under signal number 5.
03:26The residents prepared early.
03:28They tied the roof of their house so that the wind won't blow.
03:32Ace, Cagayan is now under signal number 2.
03:36And for now, the weather is calm.
03:38The rain has stopped and the wind is blowing.
03:40The residents are hoping that the weather will continue to improve here in their province.
03:46Ace?
03:47Thank you very much and be careful there, Benji Durango.
