00:00Oh, hi, sorry, you caught me trying to deduce my Spotify Wrapped playlist before it's too
00:09late. Hi, I'm tech writer Matt Mohn-Hickson, and the nights are drawing in, the leaves
00:16are falling off the trees, the clocks have gone back, and that can mean only one thing,
00:21Spotify Wrapped is just around the corner. But, when did Spotify Wrapped start? Spotify
00:27Wrapped has been running since 2016, although the yearly round-ups actually started one
00:34year prior, in 2015, with what was called a year in music. It's got more features as
00:39the years have gone on, but it's been consistent in that it shows you your stats of your top
00:44artists, your top songs for the year, and your top genres, and showing you what percentage
00:50of listeners worldwide you are to certain artists. Spotify have, in the past, given
00:55a sort of telling explanation for the reason why they started Spotify Wrapped, and they
01:00said it's because they're trying to make a sense of FOMO. We all got our wraps at the
01:05same time, and everyone stopped what they were doing, and showed each other and compared.
01:11Some people who had kids had theirs very skewed by what little children liked to listen to,
01:16so there's a lot of, you know, Disney albums and fun stuff like that there. Obviously it's
01:21very fun to share on social media, people love engaging with it. And you might be wondering,
01:28when does the tracking period end? Well, there is no definitive date, but Spotify have been
01:33clear in the past that it isn't Halloween. So there was this sort of assumption online
01:39that 31st of October was the cut-off date, but they have stated multiple, multiple times
01:44that it's not. It's sometime in early November. The exact date, can't be sure. And for Spotify
01:53Wrapped 2024, you might be wondering when it's going to arrive. Now, we can't say for
01:58sure, because we're not Spotify, we're not in the HQ, we don't have the date, but I did
02:04a bit of detective work, and I looked at all the previous years, and found that it tends
02:09to drop on the week that's the last week of November, slash start of December. So the
02:15last, you know, last couple of days of November before Advent ends, you get your calendar
02:20out, starts. And this year that falls on the 27th of November. It's a Wednesday, it always
02:26drops on a Wednesday, has done for the past six, seven years. It always drops on a Wednesday,
02:32so best guess is 27th of November. I've been tech writer Matt Monaghan, and this is a little
02:38experiment on Spotify Wrapped.
