00:00Water donation for those who are in the area of Baguio-Christine and we will talk to Ma'am Bess Parr,
00:06Senior Program Manager of Manila Water Foundation.
00:09Good afternoon, Ma'am Bess, and welcome to Bagong Pilipinas.
00:12Good afternoon to all of you.
00:16Ma'am, from Manila Water, how many gallons of container did you commit
00:21for the affected areas here in Baguio-Christine and has the distribution started?
00:27Yes, actually, we have been mobilizing since Wednesday.
00:32At the moment, we are deploying more than 4,000 5-gallon bottles.
00:39Aside from that, we are also deploying three 10-cubic tankers
00:45and one motorized boat that is currently in the camp shore.
00:50So at the moment, we are getting a lot of requests because we know
00:53that when it comes to these kinds of cases,
00:56water and drinking water is really what is most needed.
01:01What we are giving is 5 gallons, so this is about 20 liters,
01:05and it can provide drinking water to a family,
01:09maybe a small family of five, for three days.
01:12So as much as possible, these are big containers that we are delivering.
01:17We have the Philippine Coast Guard, PDRF, Air Force, and BSWD,
01:23and other private organizations such as the League of Corporate Foundations.
01:28So we are working with both government agencies, local governments, and private sector.
01:33It's good to see that we are really working together,
01:36and it's a big thing that we are all working together
01:40because we are the ones providing water, but what we really need is a truck.
01:46Even last night, we really needed 10-wheeler trucks
01:50because the water is really heavy,
01:52and it really needs to be delivered to the areas that are affected,
01:57especially the areas that are really flooded until now.
02:01So at the moment, our friends at the PCG Auxiliary are also picking up,
02:07so thank you to the Philippine Coast Guard and Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary,
02:11together with Dr. Butch Ong.
02:14All of the other private sector working with us,
02:16especially the Committee on Disaster Resilience of the League of Corporate Foundations.
02:21So they are all working together.
02:23They provide information, we share the information,
02:26and then we combine all of these resources
02:28so that we can deliver everything that is needed.
02:31At the moment, we have a pending 2,000 5-gallon water bottles going to Batangas,
02:37and we've already given them also initially in the past days.
02:42So, since last Wednesday, we've been continuously providing assistance.
02:47As long as there is a request, and we can do it,
02:50and there is transportation,
02:52we will continue to provide assistance.
02:55So thank you to those who are helping us at the Manila Water Foundation.
03:01Thank you very much.
03:03As we say, water is life.
03:06Even if there is no food, as long as there is water,
03:11that is the first thing that will sustain us.
03:14Yesterday, we were talking about the medicines supplied by the DOH.
03:18I asked if there is water, because if the medicine is drinkable,
03:21it needs clean water.
03:22Even if it's noodles and rice, it really needs water.
03:27So it is very important that this water can reach our fellow countrymen.
03:36You mentioned earlier that there are 2,000 gallons to be delivered to Batangas.
03:42I'm sure our fellow countrymen in Batangas are waiting.
03:46When will this water reach them?
03:49Right now, actually, we have already given initials for the past days.
03:53So far, in my count, I think we have more than 600 bottles
03:56that we have already delivered to Agoncillo and Laurel.
04:00At the moment, we are waiting for the trucks to actually leave our plant.
04:05So starting tonight, we should be able to deliver the initials.
04:11And then, our deadline is for it to reach Batangas by tomorrow.
04:16So we are working with the SWD under Yusef Kaliphe
04:20to get all of these done.
04:23It's really extraordinary.
04:25Logistics is really complex.
04:28If we just carry this, we need to coordinate and even the drop-off point.
04:33So we are really monitoring this
04:35because we want it to reach areas that really need water.
04:40So what does the acronym WASH Program of Manila Water mean?
04:45And how much of a help is this when it comes to emergency situations and accidents?
04:49Yes, at the Manila Water Foundation, we have 2 advocacies.
04:54One is WASH, Water Access Sanitation and Hygiene and Environment.
04:58But in WASH, that's the program that I hold.
05:00So this is Water Access Sanitation and Hygiene.
05:04When it comes to emergencies, water is really needed.
05:09Especially the proper sanitation and clean drinking water
05:13when it comes to these kinds of accidents.
05:17As you said, water is life.
05:20So in WASH for emergencies, we have a program.
05:23We call this AGAPAY.
05:25This is an aid that we provide by distributing clean water and sanitation.
05:33Anything to do with hygiene also.
05:35So we also have hygiene products already mobilized.
05:38So hopefully, we can distribute these hygiene products.
05:42What are the hygiene products?
05:44These are soap products.
05:45So we also have a partnership with PNG for Procter & Gamble.
05:49Actually, this is the start of the call for help.
05:54A lot of people are connected to us and they want to distribute these goods.
06:01We know that we can distribute and deploy water and hygiene products
06:07to those in need.
06:08So WASH is really our aid that we provide.
06:13We are the only ones who know that this type of support is very specific.
06:19Because the others are food and other support.
06:22I guess that's why we were called by the DSWD and the Philippine Coast Guard
06:28and the other government agencies.
06:31Because they know that we have the assets to provide this type of aid.
06:36Ma'am, thank you very much for your time.
06:39Ma'am Bespar, Senior Program Manager of Manila Water Foundation.
06:43Thank you very much to Manila Water for your help and support.
06:46Thank you so much.
