In Viu’s ongoing K-drama Family by Choice, South Korean actors Hwang In-youp, Jung Chae-yeon and Bae Hyun-sung play three friends who grow up like siblings but part ways after graduating high school. A decade later, the trio cross paths.

In an interview with AsiaOne, they tell us who acts like the eldest of the group off-camera, and whether they think friends can still remain close despite being separated for a period of time.

00:00Most of the people on top are the ones who follow him.
00:06The youngest always gives his opinion.
00:08That's why I think like that.
00:10I think he's mistaken that he's leading himself.
00:20Oryun Mansion in Haedong-si, where you can see the sea far away.
00:24Kang Hye-joon, who lives on the second floor, calls Kim San-ha on the third floor.
00:29People who argue that they are a family even though they are not blood related.
00:33How can a person buy something on the way home from work?
00:36Two fathers.
00:38I told you not to get in trouble.
00:40Three children.
00:41Hye-joon is Kang and you are Yoon.
00:44Hello, Asia One.
00:46I'm Hwang In-yeop, an actor who plays the role of Kim San-ha in the family.
00:51Kim San-ha is an adult child who grew up a little early due to the wounds of his family when he was young.
00:58He is a sad child who tries to live more positively by being saved and healing wounds through his family.
01:08Hello, Asia One viewers.
01:11I'm Jung Chae-yeon, who plays the role of Yoon Joo-won.
01:15Yoon Joo-won is a very clear, bright, and warm friend.
01:25She grew up alone under her father, but her father gave her a lot of love, so she is a very loving friend.
01:33But she has something she wants to protect, so I hope you watch it until the end.
01:44Hello, Asia One.
01:46I'm Bae Hyun-suk, who plays the role of Kang Hye-joon.
01:49Hye-joon is a friend who has a wound from being abandoned by his mother, so he has pain in his heart.
01:58I don't want to show that pain, so I'm a friend who lives in a brighter way than that.
02:05In the drama, the three of you spend your teenage years together like siblings before parting for 10 years.
02:10In real life, how is your dynamic like between the three of you?
02:14We've been like family.
02:19When I came to the set, I wanted to play a joke, so there were a lot of things that didn't leave each other alone.
02:27Rather than being nervous about going to the set, I was very excited to meet these friends and act again.
02:37I was so happy, and I hope my friends were happy, too.
02:41As we shoot, we are characters who go from childhood to adulthood.
02:50It's time for us to have a closer friendship, be more like family, and be more comfortable.
02:58When we're acting, if there's an ad-lib or an acting we want to do, we're going to have to adjust to each other and be considerate of each other.
03:11As you said, every time I go to the set, I think,
03:16What kind of joke should I play on my brothers? What should I do with this?
03:20I remember going there with a lot of excitement.
03:24Besides filming, we spent a lot of time together during breaks and on days when we didn't film.
03:34Ages aside, who acts like the oldest of the group and who acts like the youngest?
03:42I think I was the oldest.
03:47They're always so considerate.
03:51When I say, let's do something, they follow me.
03:55I think I was the oldest.
03:59I think Chaeyeon is mistaken.
04:02I think it's the true behavior of the oldest to let Chaeyeon do what she wants to do.
04:09I think there's a miscommunication.
04:15Chaeyeon is two years older than Hyunseong.
04:20I think Chaeyeon is the youngest.
04:23I'm not kidding. Chaeyeon is the youngest.
04:27I agree.
04:31I think Inyeop is the oldest.
04:36And as you said, I think Chaeyeon is the youngest.
04:42Because most of the members are older than her.
04:50The youngest always gives her opinion.
04:54I think Donnie is mistaken for leading himself.
04:59So for all of you, do you personally believe that friends can remain close if they didn't keep in contact for a period of time and why?
05:06I think it's possible.
05:11When I was filming, the three of us got so close.
05:17We're like real siblings.
05:19I think we've become really good colleagues and friends.
05:22I didn't see him for a month after the shoot.
05:27I didn't see him, but when I saw him again a month later, I didn't feel that distance at all.
05:34But if you're a really close friend, I don't think you'll feel that distance after a month or 10 years.
05:43That's why I think so.
05:46I think it depends on the depth of the relationship.
05:51If the relationship between friends is very close,
05:59I think they'll get along well even if they don't keep in touch for a long time.
06:05If it's the opposite, I think it's going to be a little difficult.
06:10I personally think it's a little difficult.
06:16If you don't keep in touch for a long time,
06:22If there's a misunderstanding, if there's a fight,
06:28If it's not a relationship like this, of course it can get far away.
06:32I think there's a relationship like that.
06:35Because what I said in front of you is so true.
06:38I'm trying to add a little bit of a different opinion.
06:42Some people are so close to each other even if they see each other once a year or once every two years.
06:52Even if we see each other often, I think we can feel it when we live.
07:00I don't care about all relationships.
07:04If we have a good relationship with each other,
07:07I think it's right to keep in touch with each other.
07:14Dear viewers of Asia One,
07:17I hope our chemistry, warmth, and energy will be delivered to you.
07:26Please enjoy it.
