Earlier this year, it was unclear if Canberra United would take to the field this A-League Women's season, but with less than a week left until round one, the squad is ready to go. It hasn't come without its challenges, but the collective goal is to make a finals appearance.

00:00Warming up to John Farnham's You're the Voice seems only fitting for a club that's been
00:07through so much.
00:11Ready for the season ahead, despite a far from ideal preparation.
00:14Chaotic is a great word, absolutely, so it was, it was chaotic.
00:18Is there a word that's bigger than chaotic?
00:20Head coach Anthony Jagarinets has pulled together a squad with some new recruits and familiar
00:25faces like Matilda striker Michelle Heyman.
00:28Heyman is currently in Europe with the Australian squad, but will return just in time for round
00:33one.
00:34But depending on the minute she plays with the Matildas over the next week will be dependent
00:38if she's on the bench or if she's starting.
00:41A new face who's already creating an attacking combination with her all-time favourite Matilda
00:46is Maya Markovski.
00:47I've had said this to her as well, I'm not afraid to admit it, but yeah, now playing
00:54alongside her is just like a full circle moment.
00:56She fits in, she's another Michelle Heyman, and she knows where the back of the net is,
01:01but she brings a level of supplying too.
01:04Last season Canberra was one of the worst defensive sides in the competition.
01:08I want to probably slow the goals that we conceded last year, but we still want to play
01:12proactive forward football.
01:14Another new recruit, New Zealand representative Elizabeth Anton has plenty of experience in
01:19stopping goals.
01:20As a defender, that's what you want.
01:23You want to be coming into a team where you're going to be taking on that challenge and hopefully
01:28adding to it and strengthening it.
01:30But the common goal for the squad is to not only make finals, but keep the iconic green
01:34jersey in the competition for years to come.
01:37It's awesome to be able to instantly have something that drives you as a collective.
01:42So I mean, for me, when I heard that, I was like, that's it, that's going to drive us
01:47all together.
01:48The players and their loyal fans won't be sitting in silence come round one at McKellar
01:52Park against Brisbane Roar next Saturday.
