00:00Nigeria police force on Friday says it acted based on court order to arrest and detain
00:05a minor, Deborah Foncho, at Dunse Alhaji Quarters in Kumbwa area in Abuja, the capital city of
00:12Nigeria, as the mother of the said minor was seen in a video wailing and crying profusely
00:17at the police station. The mother could be heard in the video saying that they are killing the
00:22girl child by keeping her inside the police cell with tails on her face, asking the police what
00:28did she do to dissolve the life-threatening treatments. A caption on the video by an ex-user
00:34indicated that the mother of the detained minor started wailing and crying while rolling on the
00:39floor of the police station around 1pm on Friday when she was informed that no police officer was
00:45available to process the well application of the minor. The Federal Capital Territory,
00:51FCT Police Command in a press release issued on Friday said it is false and misleading news that
00:57it acted unlawfully to have arrested and kept in its custody a minor. Adding, a senior magistrate
01:04court in the capital territory issued the warrant of arrest after the court officials were assaulted
01:09while carrying out their duties to serve court. The FCT Police Command has become aware of
01:16misleading rumors circulating on social media about the alleged arrest and unlawful detention
01:21of a minor by officers from the Kubwa Police Division. We would like to clarify that on the
01:2716th of October 2024, the senior magistrate court in Dudse Alhaji issued a court order for delivery
01:34to the residents of Anfoncho, located on Henry Nweke Street, Birangu layout in Kubwa. During
01:41this process, court staff were confronted and assaulted by Deborah Anfoncho. As a result of
01:48this incident, the court authorized a warrant for the arrest of Deborah Anfoncho for assaulting
01:54court personnel. The FCT Police acted in accordance with this court order, apprehending her and
02:01subsequently handing her over to the court authorities. She is currently in custody at
02:07the court's directive, pending further proceedings. The FCT Police Command emphasizes that all actions
02:14taken were in strict compliance with legal procedures and court directives.
