Some weather fronts will skirt far northern areas, causing some strong winds and showers in the north of Scotland and the Western Isles. In the south, some dense fog will affect many areas, likely affecting driving conditions until late morning. Elsewhere, it will be cloudy across much of the UK, with some sunny spells later on in the south and the Central Belt of Scotland. A band of rain is expected to move into Northern Ireland and western Scotland later on Wednesday night. Temperatures will feel warm for the time of year. - This is the Met Office UK Weather forecast for the morning of 23/10/24. Bringing you today’s weather forecast is Clare Nasir.

00:00Hello there and welcome to your Wednesday morning weather update from the Met Office.
00:04Two types of weather today, windy in the north, murky in the south with fog patches.
00:08Winds will continue to pick up as we head through into Wednesday morning
00:12and these weather fronts skirting the far northwest. At the same time, quieter
00:16conditions across more southern and eastern areas, that fog will be slow to clear. However
00:20the winds will pick up here into Thursday morning so no problems with fog but certainly
00:24a bit of a gusty wind extending northwards and these weather fronts here eventually
00:28make inroads towards more eastern and central parts of the country through the weekend.
00:32For the time being, you can see where the low cloud is and also
00:36some patchy rain and drizzle particularly over the higher ground. If you're travelling
00:40over higher routes this morning, poor visibility as well and that low cloud extends
00:44down towards Northern Ireland, Cumbria as well as Northumberland. Now to the
00:48south of that, some broken cloud allowing for the sun to come through once it rises
00:52but notice towards more southern and eastern areas, that's where we are seeing
00:56widespread and dense fog in places. Even fog patches further west across
01:00mid to southern parts of Wales and the west country and still one or two drizzly
01:04showers lurking out there along Channel Coast. So all in all, a lot
01:08of weather to contend with this morning but the conditions are fairly benign
01:12and what that means, the fog will be slow to clear in the south by around mid
01:16to late morning, you should see some brighter skies and this rain will never really amount
01:20to very much across western and northern areas of Scotland but certainly a keen
01:24wind here, strong towards the north-west but inland
01:28we'll see some brighter weather, some sunshine coming through, a mix of cloud and sun
01:32as we head through the afternoon and some lovely conditions coming through for the central
01:36belt and Aberdeenshire for a time as we see the cloud break up at times
01:40also for Northern Ireland but always damp towards the north-west where the strongest
01:44winds will be. 15 degrees Celsius here, 17 down towards the south-east.
01:48Now through this evening and overnight, a couple of things happen. Certainly
01:52there will be more of a breeze so any early fog and mist will tend to lift
01:56into low cloud and this bank of cloud and rain tries
02:00to make inroads towards Northern Ireland and western Scotland. The winds will be stronger
02:04into Thursday morning and temperatures on the mild side across the north
02:08and the west of the country, down to around 7 to 8 degrees Celsius
02:12across the Midlands towards East Anglia but you'll wake up to some sunshine on Thursday
02:16sunshine also for parts of Wales in Shelter, Northern England
02:20and even the north of Scotland from time to time and also for Shetland
02:24and Auckland you should see some brighter weather. At the same time this cloud and rain will bring
02:28eventually some wet weather to Northern Ireland and western Scotland here
02:32temperatures 14 degrees Celsius. Now low pressure in charge on Friday
02:36so that means it will be showery and temperatures down a notch
02:40as well, 12 to 14, 15 degrees Celsius and this low
02:44pressure, the distribution of the showers slightly uncertain at the moment
02:48they could change a little bit but certainly many areas seeing a little bit of wet weather
02:52the winds will pick up from time to time as well and into the weekend
02:56it remains fairly unsettled. I'll see you later.
