31:38What's that, Dorothy?
31:40Ah, Dorothy has a question.
31:44How do you make music with a drum?
31:48Very good question, Dorothy.
31:51Let's watch Mr. Noodle play with a drum.
31:54Mr. Noodle!
31:58Come on, Shag. We want to see Mr. Noodle.
32:06How do you play music with a drum, Mr. Noodle?
32:11Show us.
32:14Uh, what?
32:18Oh, no!
32:20No, you have to put it in the front, Mr. Noodle.
32:23The drum goes in the front, not in the back.
32:27You can't hit it that way.
32:30Go ahead, try again.
32:37You can get it.
32:39You did it before.
32:43Here you go.
32:45He did it!
32:49But now get the drumsticks, Mr. Noodle.
32:52So you can hit the drum, get the drumsticks now.
32:55Yeah, boom, boom, boom.
32:57It's the drumsticks that you make that boom, boom, boom.
33:05If you turn around, it's the easier way to get the drumsticks.
33:13That's the way to do it.
33:16Yeah, yeah, do it that way.
33:18Okay, now.
33:22He got it! He got the drumsticks!
33:25Yay, Mr. Noodle!
33:27Now play them.
33:29Play the drum.
33:36Are you okay, Mr. Noodle?
33:38He looks like he's shivering.
33:44Mr. Noodle!
33:47What's that, Dorothy?
33:49Ah, Dorothy wants to ask someone else.
33:53How do you make music with a drum?
34:00Dorothy, this is how I play a drum.
34:09Dorothy, this is how I play a drum.
34:14Dorothy, this is how I play the drums.
34:29Thank you, Dorothy.
34:31Now, Elmo will ask a baby.
34:36Hello, baby.
34:38How do you make music with a drum?
34:41How do you make music with a drum?
34:43Here you go.
34:51Thank you, baby.
34:53Bye-bye.
34:57Now, Elmo has a question for you.
35:01About something else that makes music.
35:05A guitar.
35:07Guitar!
35:09How many strings does this guitar have?
35:11One.
35:13Two strings.
35:15Three strings.
35:17Four strings.
35:19Five strings.
35:22Six strings.
35:24Ah! Six strings on a guitar!
35:28That was great counting!
35:31And now...
35:34Elmo knows some other things that make music
35:37and some things that don't.
35:40Oh, let's dance!
35:49A trombone makes music.
35:53That is nice.
35:56A box doesn't make music
35:59unless it's a music box.
36:02Oh, very pretty.
36:04A birthday cake doesn't make music,
36:07but singing happy birthday is music.
36:16Little birds make music.
36:22So do big birds.
36:24La, la, la, la.
36:31Oh, drooling.
36:34Some of Elmo's other friends can make music, too.
36:37Their teacher at school showed them how to make
36:40their own musical instruments.
36:42Oh, Dorothy, you can watch, too.
36:47Elmo's friend, Mara, learned how to make music
36:50with a plain old comb and some wax paper.
36:54He, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he.
36:58He, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he.
37:02Very good!
37:06Next, Ruben made music
37:08by tapping on glasses filled with water.
37:13Hannah thought that was cool.
37:15So did Jesse!
37:21Yeah!
37:23Then, Jesse made music by putting some rubber bands
37:26around a box and wiggling his fingers across the strings.
37:32Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle.
37:35Last of all, Elmo's friend, Hannah,
37:38made music by hitting a pot with a spoon.
37:42Ruben thought that sounded silly.
37:46Then, they all played together.
37:48Yeah.
37:54Wow.
37:56Catchy tune.
37:58I love school.
38:05And that's how Elmo's friends made music.
38:08Elmo wants to know more about music.
38:11How can Elmo find out more?
38:14Hmm.
38:19Look at that.
38:21Elmo can watch the Music Channel on TV.
38:25Yeah.
38:28Welcome to the Music Channel.
38:30Music, music, music.
38:33And now, for a golden oldie, the very first music
38:37played in the entire world ever.
38:42Once upon a time, millions of years ago,
38:46there wasn't any music.
38:48As a matter of fact, there wasn't any talking either.
38:54The only sounds were sounds like the sound
38:57of a stream rushing by or the wind whistling
39:00through the trees or the sound of thunder in the sky.
39:09And of course, there was grunting, plenty of grunting.
39:14But there was no music.
39:17But then one day, out for a walk,
39:20a cave person came upon a hollow stick.
39:24The cave person blew into the hollow stick,
39:28and the cave person liked the sound it made.
39:32So the cave person took the hollow stick back home
39:35to his cave and practiced blowing.
39:38Then he blew it for the family,
39:40and the family liked the sounds too.
39:47So they called to the neighbors,
39:49and they grunted with delight.
39:55Soon the stick player was joined by a hollow log player
39:59and a lead grunter.
40:01Together, they were the very first band
40:04playing the very first music.
40:08So from then on, every Tuesday night,
40:10everyone would gather round and listen.
40:15Stay tuned for The Music Man,
40:17The Sound of Music, and Name That Tune.
40:24Thank you, TV.
40:26But Elmo wants to learn more about music.
40:30Wow!
40:36Hey, you want to know about music?
40:38I'll tell you about music.
40:40I'm an accordion.
40:41Well, does an accordion make music too?
40:43Accordion to everyone who plays me I do.
40:48Yeah, see, I've got these great keys and buttons.
40:52They make music.
40:54Oh, really?
40:56Yeah, see, I've got these great keys and buttons.
40:59You press to play me.
41:01Oh, can Elmo play you?
41:02Oh, of course.
41:03Oh, good.
41:05Hey, nothing happened. No music.
41:08Well, of course not.
41:09You didn't stretch my bellows.
41:12Wow!
41:13Or squeeze it.
41:16Wow, Elmo loves your bellows.
41:18Oh, Elmo has a belly, see?
41:20See?
41:21And right here is a belly button.
41:24But that's not all, kid.
41:26I can play soft.
41:30Oh, pretty.
41:31And I can play loud.
41:35That's loud.
41:37I can play high notes.
41:43Wow.
41:44And I can play low notes.
41:51That's loud.
41:53And you know what, kid?
41:54What?
41:55There are lots more instruments that people can make music with.
41:58Really?
41:59Mm-hmm.
42:00Oh, excuse Elmo.
42:05Wow!
42:06Well, what's that?
42:08That's a clarinet.
42:11Oh.
42:12Oh, look, look, look.
42:14Look, look over there.
42:15Dorothy is imagining Elmo playing a clarinet.
42:18Hmm.
42:24There's the drums.
42:34And my buddy, the banjo.
42:44And my friend, the trumpet.
42:53Let's do a little clapping dance.
43:10See?
43:11There's all kinds of great music in the world, kid.
43:13Yeah.
43:14Enjoy it.
43:15Well, see you.
43:17Bye, accordion.
43:23Bye.
43:24Elmo loves making music.
43:27You know, Elmo can even make music by just doing this.
43:34Hmm.
43:35Yeah, that's called humming.
