00:00Of all the games the Calgary Flames have played this season, Saturday night was definitely
00:12one of them, as they played the Seattle Kraken to a remarkably bland 2-1 overtime loss.
00:19And the play in overtime where Nazem Qadri turns the puck over and allows Seattle to
00:24get the goal that leads to the victory was not a play that Nazem Qadri needs to be making,
00:29nor one that he should be making, and he should be veteran enough to not make that
00:34play.
00:35I do think that with this game going a little bit sideways for Calgary, Qadri was just,
00:39it was one of those trying to do too much things.
00:42It was, it was just bad.
00:44It was bad.
00:46And it's not a play you would expect from him.
00:48But I don't, I don't think there's anything actionable, I don't think you sit him off
00:51of it, it's just a, hey, just a reminder, don't!
00:54And we'll be fine.
00:55And I think that's basically, that's basically the extent of it.
00:58That's basically where it came down from.
01:00Overall, like, this, this looked like the team you're expecting.
01:04This was a team that at times had trouble generating high danger chances, it felt like
01:08at times they had trouble defending high danger chances.
01:12Natural Statric last night had, or Saturday night, sorry, had the high danger chances
01:18at 11-4 for Calgary.
01:20I'm gonna, can we go back and see if that's actually what they stuck with?
01:26Because that just didn't feel like that game at all here.
01:31Against the Kraken, high danger chances, boy, it's a long way over.
01:36Oh, they actually gave Calgary an extra one, it was 12-4.
01:38Yeah, I just, I didn't see that at all.
01:41Expected goals four, it felt like, again, they have the edge there, so the numbers are
01:46seeing something that I just, I genuinely didn't see.
01:48I didn't think offensively this team played very well at all, and I didn't think defensively
01:52this team played very well at all.
01:53I thought Dan Vladar was fantastic, I thought he was sharp when he needed to be, and this
01:57game could have got out of hand if not for Dan Vladar.
02:00But overall, this was a team that's not very good, that had three days off, and full days
02:07off, like Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, fully off, and they looked like it.
02:12They did not look sharp, they did not look crisp, they did not look like they were executing
02:17anything well.
02:18They had some opportunities, I think, to really start creating those chances, although apparently
02:22they did awesome at it anyway.
02:24But I, um, I just, I thought they were off.
02:28I thought they were off all game, and it is, it's a bit more what we expected.
02:33The one thing, and we talked about this, Conrad and I did on Game Over Calgary, I don't know
02:39where there's room for Tyson Berry here.
02:41I think that when he goes out there and is on the power play, that like, okay, that's
02:48how you are supposed to use him, but now you do have two defensemen out there, which
02:52is not the way that most teams are running their power play, and I get that you have
02:55the offensive guy out there, but still.
02:57Also, if he's only in, like, 40% of the time, it's tough to work that chemistry, and it's
03:04tough to get that.
03:06And so, if you're going to use Tyson Berry, use Tyson Berry.
03:10He's got to be in there, I think, every day to, again, get that chemistry going and get
03:13all of that, instead of making a decently sized philosophical switch.
03:18Now, Rasmus Andersen apparently is just a net front presence now, and can be that guy,
03:23but I think that if you're going to practice it one way 60% of the time and one way 40%
03:29of the time, that's not how this is going to get better.
03:32So I just, I don't think it's a fit.
03:34I don't think there's room.
03:35I would much rather see more extended play on Miromanov, and if that's not it, bring
03:40someone else up.
03:42Everyone in the American Hockey League is playing well right now.
03:44Bring those cats up, and just see what these guys have, because I just, I just, I don't
03:47get it.
03:48I really don't get it with the Tyson Berry situation.
03:50I think it's a rough fit.
03:51Anyway, Flames back in action tomorrow, along with basically everybody, when they take on
03:56the Chicago Blackhawks.
03:57I, again, will be back on Game over Calgary once that game is done.
04:01Sorry, just before we get into the fight talk here, Anand saying, yeah, Tyson Berry's situation
04:08is complex.
04:09Sometimes he fits, sometimes he doesn't.
04:11The thought of him is a good one, right?
04:13Like, you have a veteran puck moving defenseman who can come in here, and for a team that
04:17may have a few offensive challenges at times, is, can help them out.
04:22I did think that, like, he jumped into the rush.
04:24I think part of it is, again, and it sounds like I'm making excuses or whatever, part
04:29of it is, I think he is trying too hard.
04:30He jumps into the rush on that play, when there's just, there's no room for him to
04:34do that.
04:35Like, the spacing of it didn't work.
04:36And it led to a two-on-one back the other way for Seattle.
04:40It is just, it is off.
04:45It just sets the quality off, and it sets the timing of everything off, and it makes
04:50the chemistry a bit of a difficult issue for this team right now.
04:56And so, again, I think the biggest need for this team is actual strong, structured defensive
05:02play, and Berry brings none of that.
05:05Anand asking a question, Hanley, how long will he sit out?
05:11That's another one.
05:12I don't know where he fits.
05:13I think Bean has been playing well, I think Ball's been playing really well, and Pahal
05:16has been fitting great.
05:17And so, if you want to bring Berry out and put Hanley in there now, then I guess you
05:22can, but I don't know where the room is for that guy either.
05:25So how long will he sit out?
05:28I could see him coming in this next week at some point, if they need a little bit more
05:32against sound defensive play, because he brings that a little bit more.
05:35But I, I just, I, the eight defenseman thing doesn't make a lick of sense to me.
05:40And so, I just, I don't know what they are doing with this guy here right now.
