00:00I think the biggest story from the National Football League this weekend is the Kansas
00:10City Chiefs continue to roll.
00:14Kansas City with a victory over the San Francisco 49ers.
00:18And now, before everyone gets into, oh well, San Francisco this, San Francisco that, yes.
00:23Understanding that Brandon Ayoub's knee ripped apart and Debo Samuel got sick very early
00:31in this game.
00:33So yes, we are not dealing with the full complement of options here for the San Francisco 49ers,
00:40but still, they had Brock Purdy off-balanced all game.
00:46And I do think that Brock Purdy has taken a step forward this year and is actually a
00:50very strong quarterback, but I do think that this Kansas City Chiefs defense just made
00:55him look absolutely off-balance and just uncomfortable this whole game.
01:00And they do such a great job of making teams one-dimensional.
01:04The run game was not a factor at all.
01:05Mason was back fine in this game, and Kansas City's defense, it just, it didn't matter.
01:11They are able to get such a pass rush, they do such a great job in the secondary as well.
01:15There are no holes.
01:16There's nothing to really exploit with this team.
01:18We have mentioned a couple of times here, from a fantasy football perspective, they
01:22do really lock in on a number one option.
01:25And then Debo goes down, so obviously they can then lock in on Ayoub, Ayoub goes down,
01:30and they do still have some trouble with the tight end, with George Kittle.
01:32And so I just said that this is a team without flaw, and we just, we found two of them.
01:37But still, this is, I do think, a defense that is one of the best in the league.
01:43I think it's down to them and Pittsburgh for the best defenses in the National Football
01:48League.
01:49They are just so incredibly talented, and like, this is a defense-first football team.
01:54And then Patrick Holmes goes out and gets the job done with what he has.
01:58And in this game, it was a lot of stuff with the runs, and I understand that there is a...
02:06It's a little unfair.
02:07What would he can do on the sideline?
02:09Where everyone is just kind of laying up because they don't want to go out and launch at him,
02:13and he takes one step out of bounds, and all of a sudden it's a 15-yard penalty.
02:16But he just kind of does a bit of a hesitation, and then he can keep running for an extra
02:1915-20 yards anyway.
02:21It is a tricky spot for defenses to be put in, but the way that teams have had trouble
02:27moving the football this year, I'm not going to cry too much for defenses.
02:31I know that a lot of how you have been able to play defense in the NFL has been legislated
02:37out of it for a really long time now, but still, we haven't had a ton of points this
02:41year in the NFL.
02:42And so if quarterbacks want to take a bit of advantage of something, then who are we
02:47to get in their way?
02:48But still, you look at what Mahomes was able to do in this game against a San Francisco
02:52defense that, by the way, we all think very highly of, Noah Gray is your number one receiver
02:57in this game for Kansas City with four receptions, I think it was 65 yards.
03:02They were able to get the run game going a little bit with Kareem Hunt, but it's Patrick
03:05Mahomes, and it's not all the time.
03:07So you don't think of him as this mobile running quarterback the way a Jaden Daniels or Lamar
03:11Jackson are.
03:13But he is so smart about doing it at the right time, and his vision when he has the football
03:18is so incredible.
03:19That play that he had, what was the Monday night, was it Atlanta?
03:22No, that was Sunday night.
03:24The one Monday night game that they had, where he is just like, he weaves in it, oh no, see,
03:29we can loop back around and get there.
03:30He is able to set up blocks in a really efficient, really effective way.
03:34And he just sees the field so well that it is difficult to defend him when he starts
03:41getting out, and he starts really running for all of that.
03:45But yeah, this is still the best team in the league, and they proved it in a Super Bowl
03:48rematch against the 49ers.
03:50For San Francisco, you hope that Deebo Samuel is less sick when they play again.
03:55And the Brandy Niyuk injury, it sucks.
03:59He was just starting to kind of get going, and now the knee injury happens, and the season
04:04is over for him, and now Ricky Pearsall gets thrown into it.
04:09One of the things we kind of cautioned about at the beginning of the year was San Francisco
04:13had such great injury luck last year, and now it feels like all of it is just kind of
04:17crashing down, and we get another one here this week.
04:20Moving on.
04:21Who's going to get the blame with the Jets now?
04:24Alright, we fired the coach, Mike Williams fell down on a play on Monday Night Football
04:28so we had to go out and trade for Devontae Adams, where's the next scapegoat going to
04:33be found with the Jets?
04:35For the Jets to get absolutely punished by the Steelers was quite a thing to see on Sunday
04:44night.
04:45And you have Aaron Rodgers coming out.
04:46It's like, oh, we just came out a little bit flat.
04:47First of all, no you didn't.
04:48You had a 15-6 lead in this game, and then gave up 31 points in a row.
04:53But still, let's just, let's work under the assumption that he is correct.
04:58He was there, he knows, he was in the huddles, all that stuff.
05:01I was just watching on my couch.
05:04Let's just say, for argument's sake, that they came out flat.
05:07What more sparks do you need?
05:09Why are we a team that is in need of sparks?
05:12Your season is, I'm not going to say your season is on the line, because a lot of people
05:14still think they can make the playoffs, but any hope you have of winning this division,
05:18and getting any kind of a home playoff game, is on the line.
05:21You're 2-4.
05:23What more spark do you need?
05:25You're playing on Sunday Night Football against a very good Pittsburgh Steelers team.
05:29This should be getting, this, that should be spark enough.
05:33You've already fired the coach to get a spark, to try to jumpstart this team, and move them
05:37in a different direction.
05:38You traded for Devontae Adams to give a spark to this offense.
05:41Why, why are we so sparkless in New York, that there's a need for more sparks to be
05:47coming in?
05:48I just, I don't understand that at all.
05:51And it is, I feel like Aaron Rodgers has had so many things just tailored to him the last
05:58little bit, that, well, something else must be wrong.
06:02We just need to fix this.
06:03Fix this.
06:04Fix this.
06:05Because it's always been, well, my receivers are too young.
06:06My team isn't helping me, even though, you know, we've made it to the NFC Championship
06:09game all these times and all these things, but my team isn't giving me the support I
06:12need.
06:13So I need to go somewhere else.
06:14Okay, well now I don't have the right coach, well now I don't have the right wide receivers.
06:18At some point, it's not going to be perfect.
06:21Patrick Mahomes, I just said, won with Noah, by God, Gray, as his number one receiving
06:27option.
06:28So, spare me the, oh, we didn't have a spark.
06:33You only get to play 17 of these a year.
06:36Find it.
06:37Aaron Rodgers is supposed to be a leader on this team.
06:40And I came out and was very complimentary of him a little bit ago, which didn't feel
06:44great, but I was complimentary of him because he actually, it felt like, held this team
06:48accountable and was actually saying, like, no, this is, this needs to improve.
06:54And this team was not one with a lot of accountability for a while.
06:59And so I thought he did great at kind of saying, no, we need to be better.
07:03Well now, I think that accountability has to fall on him.
07:06He needs to be better.
07:07He needs to be the one who is providing the spark.
07:09He needs to be the leader that is getting his team all sparkled up and ready to go on
07:14Sunday night football.
07:15Good morning, Anand.
07:16Happy Monday.
07:17Yeah, thanks for popping in the chat today.
07:18Really appreciate it.
07:19We're going to get to some Flames chat in a little bit.
07:22But, Anand, one of the hosts on a game over Calgary, it was myself and Conrad on that
07:26this weekend.
07:27But back to the football, it's a disaster with the Jets.
07:30They are 2-5, they're three games back of the Bills for first place in the East.
07:35They do still have one more game against the Patriots, that's this week.
07:39They have two more games against the Dolphins, but Tua might be inching his way back.
07:43There are bigger problems there for sure, but it may not be the cakewalk that it seems
07:46to be.
07:48They do, as difficult games left, they have the Texans, the Seahawks, and the Bills.
07:51As, eh, games, they have the Jags, the Rams, and the Colts, where it feels like 50-50.
07:57But the only wins this team has this year are against Jacoby Bursette and Gerard Mayo
08:02in his first Thursday night football game, and Will Levis, who is Will Levis.
08:09Like this is not a good football team.
08:11And the last little bit of this, and this is a, um, this is definitely like a hot takey
08:20whatever thing, but is that Garrett Wilson drop that late leads to an interception?
08:26Maybe a sign of something else?
08:27Because he doesn't drop that nine times out of ten.
08:30And it could just be it hit his shoulder pad, and it like it's just it is one of those plays.
08:35And that is like the Occam's razor of just what is the most likely scenario.
08:39That's it.
08:40I understand I am doing a gigantic philosophical reach with this.
08:45But you do wonder if that is a man who is overthinking a little bit.
08:48They have just brought in Devontae Adams, who is the best buddy with Aaron Rodgers.
08:53You have all these different distractions going on.
08:57You just wonder if there was just something in his head where I need to make this get
08:59this is my play that this is my chance to do it.
09:02And it's just it's the football equivalent of just gripping the stick too tight.
09:07And he whiffed on it.
09:08So I just I wonder if there is just too many distractions and too much going on with the
09:13New York Jets right now.
09:14But credit to the Sealers as well.
09:16They step up.
09:17The defense plays really well and comes up with a few big plays.
09:20And Russell Wilson.
09:21I didn't think he was amazing, but he steps up and the offense did look better in this
09:25contest against a pretty good Jets defense.
09:28Another one of the big games of the weekend was the Detroit Lions.
09:30They come up with a big showing against the Vikings of Minnesota.
09:35And Jared Goff showed up in a big time way.
09:39Like this team went to the NFC Championship game a year ago, and this is still probably
09:43the most impressed I have been with him.
09:45He does not strike you as a quarterback who would handle pressure that well.
09:49And the Vikings brought it.
09:51And he was exceptional.
09:54He was so good with getting the ball out.
09:57Amon Raw St. Brown was I think a big benefactor of all of that.
10:01And I think this does kind of show game plan wise how you can take a Jamison Williams out
10:05of it, which from a fantasy standpoint sucked this week.
10:09But with that pressure coming, Amon Raw is going to be the guy who's a little bit closer
10:13to the line of scrimmage.
10:14He is going to get those quick check down passes, and he did a lot with them.
10:17And that allowed the Detroit Lions to really step up in this football game.
10:21But just a fantastic game.
10:23I think both of these teams come out of it with you feeling a little bit better about
10:26them.
10:27I don't think the Vikings have a whole lot to hang their heads about.
10:30Sam Darnold and Justin Jefferson were fantastic, and I do think you get just a touch concerned
10:36about your defense being your strength and giving up 31 points.
10:40But I still think that you have to feel very good about this from a Vikings standpoint.
10:45To think of where we thought of them at the beginning of the year, and now what they are
10:48doing here is really impressive stuff.
10:52The Houston Texans, I think, have some concerns now.
10:55They did not manage that game late well against the Green Bay Packers.
10:58They had a chance to basically set it up where they can kick a field goal to win it, or at
11:04least come close to it.
11:05And they just didn't take enough time off of the clock.
11:07They left Jordan Love with some time.
11:08He marches down, and Green Bay, who have had some field goal kicking issues for years
11:13now, get Brandon McManus to just sneak it in, and it looked like it was drifting left,
11:18and then it just kind of stays the course and goes through and gives Green Bay a very
11:23important win.
11:24But for the Texans, this is a Green Bay defense that we said last week, we're not really taking
11:29them all that seriously anymore.
11:31Maybe they haven't taken that big step that we thought.
11:33Even though it was a good performance against Arizona, it still is not a defense that's
11:38like, no, we're locked in, this is a good one.
11:41And they gave the Texans a lot of problems.
11:43C.J. Stroud, with only 99 yards passing in this game, with no Nico Collins, you can really
11:47see where things are lacking.
11:50This was where we said Stephon Diggs needs to step up, and he just gets into fights.
11:55I am pretty done with Stephon Diggs.
11:58I think that's fairly clear at this point.
12:01They need him to get better.
12:02And look, they ran the ball really effectively, and I think that that is an area that you
12:06can attack Green Bay on now.
12:08But Jordan Love did not have a great game.
12:10It felt like this game was here for the taking, and it feels like the Houston Texans kind
12:14of let one slip away on Sunday afternoon.
12:17The Seattle Seahawks step up.
12:19Just when we were ready to kind of give up on the Seahawks, they come out with one of
12:22their better performances of the year, specifically on defense.
12:25That was the type of defense that we were expecting to see from them.
12:28And they're getting a little bit healthier, and they're getting a little bit better now.
12:32And we will see what the DK Metcalf injury situation is.
12:35It didn't look great on the sideline.
12:38Reports this morning are that it's not that bad.
12:40Like, he did get carted off, but watching Good Morning Football, Ian Rapoport was saying,
12:44yeah, locker rooms are a far way away.
12:47Like they just, everyone kind of gets carted off these days.
12:50So they just didn't want him walking all that way.
12:52So maybe it's not that serious, but this defense is back to performing the way that we thought
12:57they would at the beginning of the year.
13:01And offensively, it's not a gigantic stats day for Geno Smith, but it was a good enough
13:06day to take advantage of what the defense was giving him and pick up some big points
13:10and pick up a big win.
13:11And it's just a reminder of where the Falcons are.
13:14It's a good team who can beat up bad teams and get the occasional win against good teams,
13:18but can also lose to good teams.
13:19Like this isn't, this isn't a juggernaut of any sort or anything like that.
13:24Let's look at the wins.
13:25Atlanta beat Philadelphia.
13:27That one I think is a good win still.
13:29They beat New Orleans, Tampa Bay, and Carolina.
13:32So they've won their division games and Philly.
13:34They have lost to Kansas City, Pittsburgh, and Seattle.
13:38There's no shame in losing to Kansas City.
13:40Pittsburgh, it was a weird one, weak one, but this was just a, okay, there is a ceiling
13:46to what Atlanta can do and a limit, I think, on who Atlanta can beat.
13:52And so this was a good reminder of that.
13:54The Eagles dominate the Giants.
13:55The big story from this was Saquon Barkley just running like a man possessed.
13:59And running like he absolutely saw a lot of those things on hard knocks and took it
14:03all out on what is a pretty good Giants defense.
14:07This was the first time the Eagles came out and made a statement in a couple of years.
14:12Like we said last week, this needs to be an ass-kicking game against Cleveland to reestablish
14:16yourselves as one of the top teams in the NFC.
14:19They didn't do that, well they did that this week.
14:21And it's not a big Jalen Hurts game, but with Saquon Barkley going the way he was, it's
14:26going to be difficult to stop them.
14:28The Giants offense was bottled up by an Eagles defense that's just okay.
14:32And it's very clear that it's just, it's not it for Daniel Jones and the Giants.
14:37Sticking in that division, hopefully Jaden Daniels is alright.
14:40That was concerning to see him come out with a rib injury.
14:43He had a family member tweeting out during the game, yeah he's going to be fine.
14:48They didn't put him in because why did they have to?
14:50Washington just absolutely dummied the Carolina Panthers and just whooped that ass for a gigantic
14:58win.
14:59But this is the thing that you're concerned with, with Jaden Daniels, is that he's small,
15:04he runs like crazy, and he takes a bunch of hits.
15:07So hopefully this is just quick and he's going to be alright, but you do also hope again
15:10that he learns from this.
15:11And now for Carolina, it is time to move on from Eddie Dalton again.
15:17And it is time to bring Bryce Young back in.
15:19If all the mock drafts are correct, and this team is going to go quarterback again in the
15:25first round of this upcoming draft, I think you need to give Bryce Young one more opportunity
15:30to go in there and see what he can do.
15:34It has now been weeks of him learning, it has been weeks of him on the sidelines seeing
15:38what this offense maybe can be, and now I do think it is time for him to try to get
15:43back in there, or for them to get him back in there and give him one last go with this
15:47if you are going to do that.
15:49Or I think the trade deadline is either this week or next week, that's something I should
15:55know before I go into this, but I think at that point, if you're not bringing him back
15:59in and you're just going to trade him anyway, or sorry, you're just going to get rid of
16:05him anyway, then just move him now.
16:08Just do it.
16:09You're not going to get a whole lot back for him anyway, so why not just move him now?
16:19And November 5th is the trade deadline, so there's still a little bit of time.
16:21So even if you just put him in against Denver and he sucks again, move him to Raiders for
16:24a 7th round pick.
16:25We'll talk about the Raiders here in a second, but I don't see the point of what they are
16:31doing anymore with Bryce Young.
16:36Either throw him in there and see what he has, and see what you have in him, or if you've
16:41just decided you have moved on, then fully decide you've moved on and try to get something
16:46back for him here at this deadline, and really kind of solidify that you are going in a different
16:52direction.
