00:00So up next, let's talk a little bit about what the Tableau Prep Workspace looks like.
00:05The Tableau Prep Workspace will look very similar to the Tableau Desktop Workspace,
00:10especially in the Connections pane.
00:12The Connections pane is found on the left-hand side of your screen,
00:15and can be expanded or compressed using the arrow on the left-hand side.
00:20Inside the Connections pane, you'll be able to connect to local, server, and published data sources.
00:26Now, similar to Tableau Desktop, you're able to connect to pretty much anything inside Tableau Prep.
00:32This includes some really nice connection functionality,
00:35including being able to connect directly to Tableau published data sources,
00:39and use them as your input inside your workflow.
00:42Next, on the top part of your workspace, you'll see the Flow pane.
00:46The Flow pane is a visual representation of each operation or step in the data preparation process.
00:54For those of you familiar with other workflow-type programs, like Visio,
00:59the Flow pane will look relatively familiar.
01:02Tableau Prep does a nice job of not over-complicating the Flow pane,
01:06and having a key set of steps that you can add to the pane, color code,
01:11and have key indicators to tell you what's going on in each step.
01:15Where you'll be doing most of your work inside the Tableau Prep Workspace is the Profile pane.
01:20The Profile pane displays a summary of each field in your data sample.
01:25From here, you can profile your data by clicking on your fields and values.
01:29You can also modify your values directly from this pane,
01:32or you can set up further calculations and modifications using your Changes pane.
01:37The Profile pane does a great job of displaying the ranges of values contained in each of your fields.
01:43It can be customized to be viewed in different ways,
01:46and that customization will carry over into the other steps in your Flow.
01:50Now, if you want to get a deeper dive into a specific piece of data,
01:54you can always look at your Data Grid.
01:56The Data Grid will display a preview of the rows and columns in your data source.
02:01This will be very familiar to any other sort of spreadsheet that you've seen,
02:05with the exception of any changes that you've made inside the Profile pane
02:09will automatically display the updated values both in the Profile pane and in the Data Grid,
02:15so you can get instant feedback into your changes that have been performed on the data.
02:19We're going to dive deep into each of these panes in the following lessons,
02:23but hopefully this gives you a high-level overview of the different ways you're going to be able to connect,
02:28visualize, profile, and view your data.
02:31Now that we've talked about the TableauPrep workspace,
02:34let's dive into the TableauPrep Visual Dictionary.
