00:00So guys, today we're going to be talking about the iPhone XR here.
00:05I wanted to revisit some of these older iPhones because I'm starting to notice that they're
00:09actually dropping in price.
00:11I was pretty excited about this one because when I bought mines, it was at around $300
00:17bucks, right?
00:18So now this one, the XR, the renewed refurbished one, is now at $238.
00:24And I see it, I think the lowest was $236.
00:28But even on eBay, these are starting to trend much lower.
00:30So again, last year when I bought mines, around $300, close to $300.
00:37Now it's coming down to, I think, an amazing price at under $250 bucks now.
00:43And you just get a ton for what you're paying for, especially compared to other phones in
00:49its price range.
00:50So if you got a mid-range phone, I want to tell you why this older flagship is more superior
00:55than some of these mid-range phones.
00:57What kind of makes this thing stand out at this price?
01:00Now I want to talk about the number one thing to me that stands out on this one at this
01:04price point is actually this Apple A12 chip.
01:07So for this price point, this chip is still extremely good.
01:11So if we go into graphics settings in PUBG, we're able to play at HDR Extreme and even
01:16all the way up to Ultra HD.
01:18So this is a very good gaming phone for anybody on a budget.
01:22So the specs on this one, again, the A12 Bionic chip, and then we also have iOS 15, the latest
01:28version on here, 3 gigs of RAM with 64 gigs of internal storage.
01:33I really, really like the speed on this phone, the gaming performance on here.
01:38I think it's great.
01:39So if you're on a budget, right, and you want to play games at high settings, Call of Duty,
01:44mobile, whatever, this phone does a pretty good job.
01:47So I was really happy with performance on this phone in general.
01:51Also something to note is that this phone will get iOS the next few years of updates.
01:58So iOS 16, 17, 18, I see this phone getting these updates just because of how fast and
02:06snappy everything is.
02:08It is a very fast phone.
02:10Even comparing it to a 13 Pro, you're not going to see that big difference in speed.
02:16So even if I just like your casual application and stuff like that, it still opens up fairly
02:21fast, as you can see, fairly competitive, even with the newest 13 Pro here.
02:26So I do really like the performance on here, and just for you guys that want to see the
02:32Geekbench scores, boom, and here are your Antutu scores as well.
02:40So this phone does great, so you can compare those to even some mid-rangers and see that
02:44you're still getting excellent performance with the XR.
02:47Next I want to talk about the build quality.
02:50This is actually one of my favorite feeling phones in the hand, and it's not a super massive
02:55phone at all.
02:56So it's one of those phones that you can easily kind of one hand.
03:00I think the only thing that might make it look a little bit outdated is just because
03:04it has a single camera on here, and we'll talk about that a little bit later.
03:09But it's a full glass and metal design here.
03:12It's IP67 dust and water resistant, but this design feels much better in the hand than
03:18the more, I guess how you would call it, it just kind of cuts into the hand a little
03:25bit.
03:26I don't even know what you call it.
03:27It's got these really sharp edges on the 13 Pro series.
03:30And on here, you can see that it's more smooth in the palm.
03:34That's one thing I noticed immediately, so I really like this design on the XR.
03:39It still feels extremely good in the hand.
03:42Alright, so next I want to talk about the display on here.
03:45It is an IPS panel at 6.1 inches.
03:48It is a, what Apple calls a liquid retina IPS.
03:52It's 720p plus, and then it has 326 for the PPI.
03:56The panel itself, I think for your average person, it's still fairly sharp.
04:01Of course, we do have the notch up here.
04:04It's still fairly sharp.
04:05It's not an OLED panel, right?
04:07But for an IPS panel, colors look fine and it gets fairly bright.
04:12So I actually don't have any issues with it.
04:14It's not like it's a bad IPS panel.
04:16It's not washing out or anything like that.
04:19So display on here is fine, 6.1 inches.
04:22It's a pretty good size for people with smaller hands as well too, so if you have issues with
04:28bigger phones and having to shimmy it and do all that stuff.
04:32This phone is a comfortable size, so I was able to use this phone without feeling like
04:36it's too big or feeling like my hands are straining or something like that.
04:41So I do like the size of the phone.
04:43Display again is fine.
04:44I think it's fairly bright as well too.
04:47Now one of my favorite things about the XR is actually the speakers are actually pretty
04:51crazy on here.
04:52I'll go ahead and let you guys hear it at max volume.
05:09So what I love about iPhone speakers is that usually on other phones, the top speaker will
05:15not put in as much work as the bottom speaker.
05:19But as we can hear, if I cover this one up, I still get good bass quality out of this
05:22one.
05:23It's still fairly loud.
05:31So I really like the speaker quality on here.
05:34The vibrations on here are pretty good as well too.
05:36You definitely would be able to hear your phone vibrating.
05:42Just talking about some of the other features, of course you have Face ID on here.
05:46That works flawlessly as well too.
05:48You also have your Apple Pay on here as well too.
05:52So you have a lot of the same features that you know and love on the newer phones.
05:57It's still on the XR, it's not like it's really lacking or anything like that.
06:01So I think the most important thing about this phone is how are the cameras.
06:06So I think that's a big thing with this phone.
06:09Surprisingly, the cameras are still pretty good.
06:11I actually still get kind of impressed with image quality on this phone.
06:15So it is a 12 megapixel sensor.
06:18But here's the thing about the camera, it's just one single lens.
06:21So I know it kind of kills it for some people.
06:23There's no ultra wide, there's no telephoto, it's just that one lens.
06:27But if you're not an advanced camera person and you just snap photos, the cameras on here
06:33are pretty good.
06:34You get pretty good detail on here, pretty good color on here.
06:37I really like the selfie cam on here as well too.
06:40I thought image quality was actually pretty good on this phone.
06:45So I actually have zero complaints at this price point and you guys can see the shots
06:49for yourself.
06:50I think dynamic range is good, the color science is good, right?
06:54Video is phenomenal.
06:55I'll let you guys see the video quality as well too.
06:57I do not have any issues with the XR's image quality.
07:03So it can shoot in 4K, 24, 30, or 60 FPS.
07:07And then it has a 7 megapixel selfie that shoots in 1080p, 60 as well.
07:12So I'll go ahead and let you guys see the video so you guys can get a feel for that.
07:15All right guys, here's the video on the XR here.
07:19Let me know what you guys think.
07:33Lastly, we need to talk about battery performance on here.
07:53So battery life is actually still pretty solid on this device.
07:56It's got a 2,942 milliamp battery.
08:00Now this varies on your battery health.
08:02Now if you buy a renewed refurbished phone, they're not allowed to sell you a phone with
08:07battery health under 80%.
08:09So we'll go ahead and just check my battery health and see what it's at.
08:15Let's just see, where is the battery?
08:19I know I'm just like passing it.
08:22Here it is.
08:23I'll go to battery health.
08:26And we can see we're at 87%.
08:28Now typically, most of the iPhones that I buy from Amazon usually fall in that 85%.
08:34I usually never got anything close to 80%.
08:37Also battery life is pretty good on here.
08:38I'm able to get six hours of screen on time with this phone, which I think is pretty solid.
08:42And again, it's going to vary how you use your phone.
08:45If you're a heavy gamer, you might get five hours of screen on time, five hours and 30
08:50minutes.
08:51But typically, this phone has pretty good battery life.
08:53And as always, you can pay to get the battery replaced.
08:56I think it's not that expensive.
08:59You could do it yourself.
09:00That'll save you a ton of money.
09:01But it's really not that expensive to get the battery replaced on these older phones.
09:05So the XR is a pretty good buy in 2022.
09:09I think the cameras are actually surprisingly good, even though it's only one lens.
09:14The A12 chip is still extremely fast in 2022, as we saw.
09:18It just plays games great.
09:20No lag, no overheating.
09:22It opens applications fairly fast as well, too.
09:25I never get hiccup problems with this phone when I'm just doing little basic stuff like
09:30you're on Instagram, web browsing.
09:32It does a great job video watching.
09:34So overall, it's a pretty solid phone, and I think a great device for anybody on a strict
09:39budget.
09:40Now, we are going to talk about the iPhone XS.
09:41The XS, to me, is a little bit better.
09:43It's a little bit more expensive now.
09:46Not by much.
09:47Maybe like 50 bucks more.
09:48But we're going to talk about that and why you might prefer that one over the XR.
